Source: Harris may nominate Gary Gensler as Treasury Secretary if elected US President

On August 21, Washington Reporter cited sources as saying that although Gary Gensler, chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has not publicly expressed his willingness to leave, several senior Senate staff told the media that if US Vice President Kamala Harris wins the US presidential election in November, she plans to nominate Gensler as Treasury Secretary. These rumors have been confirmed by several senior Republicans, who have also expressed the same view to Washington Reporter in public.

In addition to the possibility of serving as Treasury Secretary in a hypothetical Harris administration, there are rumors that Gary Gensler may resign as SEC Chairman and allow President Joe Biden to nominate a new SEC Chairman before the November election.

Ben Schiller, editor-in-chief of CoinDesk's special features, said that Washington Reporter was initiated by Republican activists, and spreading the rumor may prevent cryptocurrency supporters from voting for the Democratic Party.
