Cryptocurrency research organization Coin Center has received approval from the U.S. Court of Appeals to restart its lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service after deciding to dismiss the previous case.

Coin Center sued the Treasury Department in 2022 over a controversial amendment to the U.S. tax code that requires the disclosure of cryptocurrency transactions and the personal information of the participants in these transactions to the tax authorities.

Coin Center believes that the amendment is unconstitutional and is evidence of "excessive surveillance" of cryptocurrency users. In the case of online transactions, it is difficult to know the identity of the other party, and the other party has no reason to provide personal information for you to submit to the tax authorities.
