Happycoin.club - Private space company Space Exploration & Research Agency (SERA) has entered into a partnership agreement with crypto exchange Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN), within which it will issue 3 types of space-themed NFTs on the BASE blockchain.
Once the collectible tokens are purchased, NFT holders will be able to bid for one of six seats reserved by SERA for an upcoming mission on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket.
It's about trying to open up space for everyone," said SERA co-founder and former rocket engineer Sam Hutchinson.
The selection of candidates for space flight will take place directly on the BASE blockchain. Once users gain access to the SERA astronaut selection program, which will begin in the coming weeks, they will be given mission badges in the form of NFTs. These will be used to track the progress of the various stages of selection.
Because this is a historic moment, we need to ensure that the candidate selection process is fair and transparent through a combination of KYC and blockchain-based voting,” Hutchinson said.
According to Jesse Pollack, an engineer at Coinbase and the creator of Base, SERA's main goal is to "make the future of space exploration more inclusive by bringing the possibility of flight to everyone."
The remaining five seats on the upcoming mission on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket are reserved for astronauts from countries that have rarely or never flown in space (India, Nigeria, and others).
