⭐⭐Critical Vulnerability Found in Solana Network, Process Stealthily Managed ⭐⭐
Solana developers, validators, and client teams successfully resolved a critical vulnerability in the network by securing a large portion of the network before it was made public.
According to the statements, the Solana Foundation contacted leading network operators in the Solana ecosystem on Wednesday through private communication channels to address the issue. The parties conducted the process secretly to prevent the vulnerability from being exploited and to apply the necessary patch.
According to the information shared by Solana validator Laine, the patch was implemented thanks to the Anza engineer's GitHub repository. Thanks to this, the operators were able to independently verify and apply the necessary changes.
After the issue was resolved, the details were revealed. As of 17:00 UTC on Thursday, August 8th, detailed instructions for applying the patch were shared with various stakeholders and 66.6% of the network was secured. The vulnerability was made public after 70% of the network had been patched. Solana Labs sent a notification to all remaining operators via Discord to update their systems.
The announcement included the following statements: “Key contributors have identified a network security issue that requires an immediate response. The patched v1.18.21 will be available in 30 minutes. Be prepared to update as soon as the announcement is made.”
