#ChainLight , a #blockchain security audit firm, discovered a critical vulnerability in the #zkSyncEra protocol, potentially risking a $1.9 billion loss if exploited. The vulnerability was located in zkSync Era's zk-circuits, designed to validate transaction data securely. A malicious actor could manipulate transactions within a block and have them falsely verified, causing layer-1 smart contracts to accept these fraudulent proofs.
However, the protocol had robust security measures in place, making it challenging to exploit unless the attacker had privileged access to Matter Labs, the infrastructure team behind zkSync Era. The attacker would need access to the protocol's backend or validator private key, and endure a 21-hour waiting period for fund extraction due to an execution delay.
#MatterLabs quickly addressed the issue after ChainLight's report, and the security firm was rewarded with 50,000 #usdc for discovering the bug. The bug was not part of existing bug bounty programs, but its impact warranted recognition. Layer-2 zkSync Stopped working due to Excessive Caution
Recently, the zkSync Era Layer 2 network unexpectedly stopped generating blocks for about 3 hours, attracting the attention of the cryptocurrency community.
According to information from blockchain tracking site zkSync, the Layer 2 zkSync network stopped operating at around 5:48 a.m on December 25 UTC time and maintained this status for many hours afterward.
After the fix, the zkSync team clarified the cause of the problem. According to the project, there was an error during the process by which the Operator (the party that verifies transactions and sends them to Ethereum) calculates the status update. This made the Sequencer work properly, but performed an unnecessary and overly careful process, delaying transaction processing.
Specifically, at that time, the Operator encountered a "simple" error when processing a status update transaction and sent this error to other computational nodes. Then, the entire network, upon detecting the error, activated a "maximum defense" state, causing the Sequencer to wait a long time for processing, thereby clogging the zkSync network.
The project said the network was operating too securely, when a "simple" error could cause the network to be jammed for hours.
Although the error has been fixed, the shutdown of zkSync has increased user concerns that zkSync is being overly centralized. Currently, the operation of the platform depends on Validators or Operators. If some important Validators or Operators are hacked or controlled by a third party, this could affect the security and reliability of the entire zkSync network.

1. TVL is flat at just over 150M after 1 year of Mainet and the Airdrop hunter's fee.
2. The number of quality native projects is almost non-existent. Hunting for gems 12 months ago and got the right items#Mavand#Holdbut it was not as good as expected.
3. Many projects have turned towards building multichain because this land of Zksync is really not fertile for them.
4. Almost at the same time as#Arbitrumbut look what Arb has done in their Ecosystem.
5. Hint#Airdropbut really, if there is any, I don't know where the money will come from to airdrop project for you guys. The expectation of being a 2nd#Arbis almost impossible. This is a personal opinion.
