The private sector of Nueva Esparta took a step that many merchants from inside the country have been considering for some time: stop praying for the power grid and produce their own energy. Fedecámaras Nueva Esparta, under the leadership of Gabriel Briceño, announced an agreement with Swing Energy so that companies and businesses on the island can purchase electrical self-generation equipment with financing options and terms that the association described as favorable.
The stated objective is to alleviate the national electricity service problem, which on Margarita hits the tourism trade with particular force—hotels, restaurants, and small shops that rely on uninterrupted operation of refrigerators, air conditioners, and payment systems.
