While half the world watches the Brent price, in Caracas a detail is being cooked up that moves more needles than it seems: GeoPark Ltd., the producer backed by the Grupo Gilinski, is at the table with Pdvsa negotiating the supply of diluent, that light crude which is mixed with the extra-heavy oil from the Orinoco Belt so it can flow through pipelines without turning into an intransportable paste. Its CEO, Felipe Bayón, said this at an oil-industry conference in the capital: without diluent, production in the Belt simply does not get going.
