The international agenda once again turned its attention to Venezuela, and this time the topic was neither oil nor debt: it was food. In Rome, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu after her address at the World Food Forum. The focus of the discussion: global food security and the steps the country is taking to boost agricultural productivity once again.
The official message centered on an ambitious goal—eradicating hunger before 2030—and the idea of sowing “confidence, opportunity, and prosperity.” It sounds like multilateral rhetoric, yes, but for anyone following the day-to-day of Venezuela’s economy, the real question is something else: how will this agricultural recovery be financed, paid for, and settled in a country where cash is scarce and the digital dollar rules?
