๐ก๏ธ CZ: No wallet is 100% secureโso is your โdiversified portfolioโ really diversified?
On October 22, CZ posted a brief message on X: No crypto wallet is 100% secure. No software is bug-free. No technology is 100% secure. Taking action involves risk, and doing nothing involves risk too. Stay up to date, manage risk, and solve problems.
In less than a day, the post received around 480,000 views, over 8,300 likes, and more than 1,000 replies.
The discussion soon veered off to another topic: portfolio risk. Quite a few people used tools to analyze their portfolios, and the conclusions were soberingโ
๐น BTC, ETH, SOL, plus a few other public-chain tokens: it may look like you own five or six different assets, but their correlations are actually high
๐น In stress tests, portfolios heavily weighted toward public-chain tokens often fall faster than portfolios holding only BTC
๐น Sharing the same infrastructure and market sentiment means that owning more coins doesnโt necessarily spread out your risk
Thereโs another angle, given whatโs happened over the past couple of days: after news of a PHP vulnerability emerged, PancakeSwap proactively issued a statement saying its tech stack doesnโt use PHP and usersโ funds are safe. CZ reposted it, saying most projects should at least issue a similar confirmation.
My take: There are two kinds of risk: โa wallet or platform going downโ and โyour whole portfolio falling at once.โ The first can be managed by spreading funds across wallets, revoking token approvals, and relying only on official announcements. The second requires genuinely different assets and position sizingโnot just buying more coins that look alike.
How many of the coins in your portfolio move in sync with BTC? Do you hold anything that doesnโt fall when it does?
