#ShibaInu , the popular meme cryptocurrency with a dog-themed twist, is gearing up for a major update for its holders. The team behind this cryptocurrency has decided to apply for a new domain with the „ #shib " extension, which will be fully functional within the domain name system (DNS) of the internet.

D3, a company specializing in next-generation internet domains, announced on December 19th via their Twitter account that they have entered into a partnership with @ShibToken to request the acquisition of the top-level domain (TLD) „.shib" This new domain could bring a revolution in internet addresses and enable better interoperability between the traditional internet (Web2) and the emerging decentralized internet era (Web3).

Currently, Web3 domains like „crypto" and „eth" don't naturally cooperate with common internet tools such as web browsers and email applications due to insufficient DNS support. Conversely, Web2 domains like „.com" and „.net" work well with these tools but do not seamlessly integrate with new Web3 technologies like crypto wallets and digital identity.

If the request for the approval of the „.shib" domain is successful, Shiba Inu meme coin holders will be able to create email addresses with this new extension. These addresses should be compatible with common email applications, making communication within the SHIB community more accessible.

D3 will now have to seek approval from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a nonprofit organization based in the United States responsible for establishing rules and standards related to internet identifiers.

Additionally, the internet domain company D3 plans to introduce "name tokens" for SHIB users. These tokens would allow users to easily transfer digital assets across different blockchains without the need for lengthy alphanumeric wallet addresses. This innovation could streamline and expedite transactions within the SHIB community.

Although the news of Shiba Inu's plans has not significantly impacted the SHIB price, it represents an interesting step toward better integrating cryptocurrency into everyday life. The Shiba Inu team is also continuing its development efforts, preparing to launch a new Layer 2 blockchain called Shibarium, which reached one million users in September. While this blockchain is still in a private mode, its public release is scheduled for the coming months. These actions demonstrate that Shiba Inu remains committed to innovation and advancing its project.
