$33.4 billion through late June from the Pentagon's own watchdog. $37.5 billion from the Pentagon in July. $38 billion over 5 months in the accounting Congress just received. And U.S. officials told NBC the real figure is closer to $80 to $100 billion.
Then come the costs nobody counted at all. $21.7 billion just to replace the bombs and missiles already fired, a bill that only starts arriving once the shooting stops, with interceptor stockpiles already low enough to worry the people counting them.
Now the White House wants $87.6 billion from Congress to refill the shelves, and both parties are hesitating over a war most Americans already wanted finished.
