$NOW current price 100 US dollars, 24-hour increase 1.75%, trading volume is decent, but two micro indicators are worth looking at separately: the funding rate is zero, and the open interest contracts are hovering around 6241.49 without clearly expanding upward alongside the price.

A zero funding rate is uncommon in perpetual contracts—especially when it appears right around a hundred-dollar whole-number level—which itself sends a signal. The price has pushed into a psychological resistance zone. There is a previous high overhead acting as resistance, while the area around 90 serves as a support reference.

At this level, both bulls and bears are unwilling to pay funding fees to actively bet on a direction. Even though price is rising, there is no typical bullish “sweep” pattern that would drive the funding rate higher. Since open interest hasn’t climbed, it doesn’t look like new main players are entering to build positions. It looks more like existing participants are rotating, with positions being restructured.

If there were a sustained bullish run, the funding rate would usually be pushed up, creating a positive feedback loop. But with a zero funding rate sitting between a mild rise, the order book feels like a tight equilibrium.

The last time $NOW had a zero funding rate, I checked the historical record. It happened during a sideways phase after a sharp sell-off. After the funding rate went to zero, the market consolidated for about three days, then broke downward and moved lower. That single historical sample has limited reference value and can’t be linearly extrapolated. But combined with the current funding-rate structure and the mild uptick, my intuition is hesitation rather than an accumulation phase.

How to look at what comes next—really boils down to three scenarios.

A breakout to the upside needs two conditions to line up: a volume-backed breakout around the 105 area, and the funding rate turning positive, entering a self-reinforcing long momentum rhythm. Right now, neither condition is met, so the cost-effectiveness of chasing longs isn’t high.

A drop/breakdown would require the price to effectively pierce below the 95 area, and the funding rate could then turn negative, creating a bear-led environment. Only then would the potential downward trend be worth further evaluation. Until both signals appear, price is more likely to continue to probe and grind near the key levels, trading back and forth.

At this stage, I’m inclined to add $NOW to my watchlist rather than my trading list. A more proactive approach would be to place a small position test around 100, betting on an upside breakout—but the stop-loss must be tight, placed below 95. The more conservative approach is to wait for the breakout signal to appear and then follow from the right-hand side, without participating during the consolidation.

If you don’t want the hassle, then just don’t touch it—wait for the market to choose a direction, then reprice your plan.

In the end, a zero funding rate is like both sides staring at each other across the negotiation table—nobody wants to be the first to pay.
