🟧 Bitcoin NFT enthusiasts collectively call on OpenSea: When will you support Ordinals?
One phrase has been all over X these past couple of days: “Hi OpenSea, please add support for Ordinals and Runes.”
It started when Leonidas, a longtime advocate of Bitcoin Ordinals, directly messaged OpenSea to request that it list Ordinals and Runes for trading. OpenSea staff had previously said that community feedback could influence their roadmap, so people started sharing mockups: Bitcoin Puppets, NodeMonkes, and Runestone photoshopped into OpenSea-style interfaces, making it look like a launch was just around the corner.
The context is easy to understand:
🔹 Some users noted that Magic Eden exited the Bitcoin business this March, and Ord.io also shut down, leaving fewer places to trade Bitcoin NFTs.
🔹 OpenSea already supports more than 25 blockchains, but Bitcoin isn’t one of them.
🔹 Supporters believe that listing on OpenSea could bring liquidity and exposure; others worry it could draw activity away from Bitcoin-native platforms.
The key point: OpenSea has not confirmed any timeline. All the interface screenshots circulating right now are mockups made by the community.
My take 👇
This isn’t about “Bitcoin NFTs taking off”—it’s about “Bitcoin NFTs lacking a marketplace.” Whether an asset can be sold often has less to do with how good it is and more to do with whether there are buyers ready to pick it up somewhere convenient. As one marketplace after another shuts down, liquidity naturally dries up.
So if you hold Ordinals, rather than betting on when OpenSea might launch, first check where you can still list them and how much depth the order book has. One more reminder: when “everyone is waiting,” phishing links like “OpenSea Bitcoin early access” or “Claim your Ordinals migration” are especially likely to pop up. Until there’s an official announcement, don’t interact with any page asking you to connect your wallet and sign a transaction.
Do you think OpenSea will support Bitcoin NFTs? If it does, will it revive the market, or just spark another brief wave of speculation?
