Six of crypto's biggest networks just teamed up with one demand for the SEC: put "digital commodity" into binding law.

Chainlink Labs, Hedera, Aptos Labs, Ava Labs, the Stellar Development Foundation and the Cardano Foundation filed a joint letter before Tuesday's deadline, asking the SEC to write the digital-commodity definition — classified as not a security in its March 2026 interpretation — into the binding text of Regulation Crypto Assets, not just the preamble.

Chainlink's Taylor Barr announced the push on X; Ava Labs and Hedera also filed separately, and Ripple submitted its own 20-page letter the same day. The August proposal includes $5M/4yr and $75M/12mo issuance exemptions.

Why it matters: if adopted, LINK, HBAR, APT, AVAX, XLM, ADA and other qualifying tokens would rest on binding regulation instead of guidance — real legal certainty for builders. But the letter isn't in the SEC's public file yet, and the agency can adopt, modify or ignore it.
