Binance has begun returning assets affected by the incident to users and continues to work with law enforcement, issuers, blockchain analytics firms, and industry partners to track, freeze, and recover additional funds.
In an earlier statement, the company publicly committed to covering the losses with its own funds.
Binance has already set aside more than $6.34 billion in its own funds to cover losses related to this incident. $5 billion of these funds are already in the form of the very tokens affected by the incident. We are currently finalizing the acquisition of the remaining amount by purchasing tokens through market and over-the-counter channels.
We are doing this to ensure that the remaining tokens are in the right denominations and to address any asset shortfall. This stage may take longer, as some tokens may have low liquidity, and over-the-counter settlements also take time. We will share further progress as soon as possible.
These figures do not include frozen or safeguarded assets that are still in the process of being recovered and verified. Currently, $3 billion has been frozen thanks to our industry partners.
