XMR official docs add Polyseed details | Don’t confuse backup methods | Don’t chase near $532 My stance: I’m watching XMR cautiously. What’s more worth discussing today is basic wallet security—not hyping a documentation update as a catalyst for the price. On October 10, the Monero project’s official documentation repository merged #408, adding details about Polyseed passphrases and encryption. The updated documentation is clear: Polyseed supports what is called a “seed offset,” where a passphrase is hashed and used in calculating wallet keys. You need the same passphrase to restore the wallet. Setting a passphrase does not change the seed phrase itself, but it does change the keys generated during recovery. The documentation also mentions a dedicated “encryption” feature in the Polyseed specification, which uses a feature flag to indicate that a seed phrase has been encrypted with a passphrase. Most wallets, including the Monero GUI/CLI wallets, have not implemented this feature, and the documentation generally does not recommend using it due to deniability concerns. These two mechanisms should not be conflated as a single “new encryption upgrade.” The connection between this information and the market is risk management, not an immediate flow of funds. For privacy-coin holders, the biggest risk may not be price volatility, but assuming that “remembering 16 words is enough” when making a backup, then later forgetting an additional passphrase or mistaking two different recovery mechanisms for the same one—and ultimately being unable to access the wallet they expected. Clarifications in the documentation can reduce misunderstandings, but they do not change XMR issuance, network consensus, or exchange liquidity. Nor is there evidence of a major wallet incident today. Everyone should keep backups offline and separately, test recovery with a small amount first, and never enter a seed phrase or passphrase on an unfamiliar website. The technical description in the documentation is not a reason for me to recommend that everyone immediately change their wallet settings. First, check the software version and recovery process for the wallet you already use. The current market action also doesn’t justify pricing the “documentation merge” as positive news. At around 02:39 Beijing time, Kraken quoted XMR/USD at $531.96, with a daily open of $526.60 and a range of $519.25–$544.25. The price is above the daily open but still below the intraday high; I can’t prove this move is related to the documentation update. For the short term, I’d treat around $544 as the breakout confirmation level and around $519 as the invalidation level. If the price keeps moving back and forth between them, I’d rather remain patient. XMR’s liquidity and trading venues differ from those of major coins, so the price on a single platform cannot represent market-wide trading depth. If I were trading this myself, I wouldn’t enter at the moment. I’d only consider a small spot long position, with no high leverage. I would enter with 1.5% of total capital only if the price moves convincingly above $544 and then retests and holds $538. I’d first target $558, sell half there, then look to exit the remainder at $570. If the price falls back to $529, I’d stop out. If it first breaks below $519 or a credible firsthand security alert emerges, I’d cancel the long plan and close the position. No trigger means no trade—and there’s no claim of having profited from this news. For holders, verifying your backup is more important than guessing the next 15-minute candle.
