Meta is collaborating with iHeartRadio to present J Balvin’s Futurum: A VR Concert Experience. The immersive 45-minute experience premiers on Friday, February 17 at 6 p.m. PT on Meta’s platforms: the iHeartRadio Facebook and Instagram pages, Meta Quest TV, and Messenger’s Watch Together.
The J Balvin “Futurum: A VR Concert Experience” will feature 180-degree cutting-edge visuals and performances. The concert will include a custom-built, lighted stage and seven backup dancers. J Balvin will be attached to a 15-foot robotic arm that will move in sync with the music. The Colombian artist will perform 17 of his most popular songs, such as “La Canción,” “I Like It,” “No Me Conoce,” and “Mi Gente,” which reached the number one spot on the Billboard charts.
The J Balvin Futurum is a part of the iHeartRadio Concert Series in VR. With Futurum, Balvin joins other previous performers, such as John Legend, Carrie Underwood, and Kim Petras.
“I’m always looking for new and innovative ways to expand access to art and the VR space is one with limitless opportunity. The whole show has a futuristic vibe including some crazy robotics twice my size. It will be one of my wildest shows ever and I’m grateful to Meta and iHeart for the unique collaboration and the platform to explore my passion for technology in a way that allows my fans to experience my music together in a different way,”
J Balvin said.
Last month, Gorillaz performed an augmented reality (AR) concert through Google Technology. The virtual band held a concert in London and New York without physically being there. Music artists have been keen on joining the metaverse. For instance, after partnering with Roblox, Elton John said that the metaverse is perfect for the next stage of his career.
VR and AR technologies allow for a more immersive concert experience, as fans can feel like they are in the front row of a live concert even if they are not physically present. Technology allows people from all over the world to attend a concert without having to travel to a specific location.
