In the rapidly evolving Web3 industry, it’s essential to celebrate and empower the people who work hard to break barriers and pave the way for future generations. As a company committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in our industry, we recognize the importance of providing equal opportunity for all.

In honor of Employee Appreciation Day (March 3) and in anticipation of International Women's Day (March 8), we want to take the opportunity to highlight individual stories of Binancians from across the business. We hope that their experiences will inspire others and demonstrate the value of diversity in Web3 and beyond.

“The crypto industry is still in its early days and offers many opportunities for those who are passionate about blockchain technology or eager to learn. I believe now is a great time to get involved, regardless of your background or gender, as we have more access to educational information than ever before. At Binance, we care deeply about education and through Binance Academy we aim to provide free education for all to inspire innovation and creativity that will help us build the future.” Yi He, Co-founder

What’s Attractive About Working In Web3?

In an industry that’s truly 24/7, and one that’s paving the way for the future and freedom of money, we recognize that there is a multitude of challenges facing us daily. These challenges, however, are what excite our Binancians – along with the opportunity to contribute to bringing about systemic changes in how we operate in the financial world. We heard from a number of people working at Binance about what makes a career in Web3 so attractive.

“I was eager to learn more about the technology, and joining the leader in this space felt like a dream job. The best part of my career has been meeting colleagues around the world that have a shared passion for the industry and are incredible subject-matter experts. It’s really impressive to see how we can all come together to produce great work.” Kirby, Brand PR

Catherine, Head of VIP, echoed this sentiment: “The innovation, the energy, the community. This is what I enjoy the most. Everybody is constantly building, and the possibility to be leading the evolution of finance is exciting.”

Learning is part of our DNA: here at Binance, we love to be early adopters. For us all to keep up with the changing landscape, we need to ensure we’re always looking for opportunities to pick up new skills and knowledge.

“I believe that willingness to learn and adapt to change is a crucial skill for gaining the best experience out of your time at Binance. The crypto industry is constantly evolving, so being able to respond instantly and flexibly is a must.” Frantiska, Marketing Intern

The Biggest Challenges Women Face In Crypto

According to an August 2022 CoinGeek study, a lack of proper educational resources poses a significant challenge to women wishing to explore work opportunities in the Web3 industry.

At Binance, we’re always looking for ways to educate people on the benefits (and risks) associated with crypto. We regularly hold events that enable people to get a better understanding of what it’s like to be part of our industry and how they can best prepare themselves to become part of it.

Here’s what women at Binance had to say about their biggest challenges.

“Networking is especially important for us. We recently hosted a Women in Crypto event, and we intend to continue to facilitate these events around the world to educate women about the blockchain industry and build trust in what we do. There are a real variety of talented women from different cultures that are passionate about Web3, so it’s important to build these relationships.” Salina, HR

Building on this, Alice, Tech Leader, reflected on how the biggest challenge she sees is the industry’s understanding of how much women can bring to the table. “I overcame this by dedicated learning and hands-on daily work. My advice to anyone else wanting to join the industry is to be confident, strong, and not be defined by tags or gender.”

“There is less female representation in leadership positions in many industries, but sometimes the biggest challenges are within. Getting a seat at the table starts with believing you deserve one. Women sometimes have self-limiting beliefs that can hold them back. Web3 is an emerging industry with no playbook, so all ideas are welcome.” Kim, HR

One of the biggest barriers for women considering opportunities in Web3 is the perception that this is a very male-dominated sector. “You might see a lot of male faces on social media when it comes to crypto, but there are a lot of women too, especially at Binance. If you’re looking to join our industry, my advice is to just go for it!” Kylie, Social Media

What EAD and IWD Mean to Us

We chose to focus on Employee Appreciation Day alongside International Women’s Day this year as we recognize the importance of shining a light on Binancians and letting their stories be heard and amplify their successes. This is what these days mean to some of them:

  • “Celebrating the strength, resilience, and creativity of women across the globe.” Kim, HR

  • “A moment to celebrate all the contributions our people have made globally — and to see individuals, businesses, and organizations all come together to show their appreciation of their joint achievements, and importantly, of what’s to come.” Kirby, Brand PR

  • “This is an opportunity to bring more to the center of the discussion, the challenges we still face in relation to gender inequality and its harmful consequences for society as a whole, and give visibility to initiatives that contribute to solving challenges and reducing this gap.” Carolina, Comms

  • “For me, IWD is a global celebration, a time when women come together as a community to recognize the achievements and opportunities we have gained over the years. It's a time to celebrate the power of women, our resiliency, & equality in the world.” Kylie, Social Media

We are proud to be a company that embraces diversity and inclusivity, and we are passionate about providing equal opportunity for everyone to succeed. We believe that each individual has something to offer to the global Web3 movement, and we encourage people from all walks of life to join us and bring their unique perspectives and ideas to the table.
