#ArgentinaCentralBankWillNotPushCryptoIntoBankingForTwoYears Argentina’s Central Bank Just Pumped the Brakes on Crypto Banking — Here’s What That Means Here’s a headline that caught my eye: Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) has confirmed it will not push crypto or digital assets into the banking and payment system for at least the next two years. Juan Curutchet, the BCRA’s head of financial and foreign exchange institution regulation, said the 2022 ban on financial institutions offering crypto services will remain in place. The reasoning? Argentina’s current economic fragility isn’t seen as compatible with that kind of integration, and any reconsideration would likely depend on a more stable economic picture — possibly even a future Milei term. But here’s the interesting nuance: despite the ban, Argentine banking groups are already moving forward with institutional stablecoin projects through separate entities — for programmable money, treasury management, and on-chain payment triggers. And over the 12 months to June 30, crypto trading volume in Argentina topped $88.5 billion, making it Latin America’s second-largest crypto hub. Why this matters: Argentina sits at a crossroads — a population with deep crypto adoption, but a regulator that isn’t ready to bridge the gap into traditional banking. The two-year timeline gives the market clarity, but it also raises a bigger question: does crypto in Argentina grow around the banking system rather than through it? Curious to see how this plays out. What’s your read on the signal this sends? $BTC $ETH $BNB
