The exchange published a preliminary report on the investigation’s findings and the measures taken.
Key points:
— Binance is bearing the financial consequences of the incident — user funds were not affected;
— more than 100% of the funds needed to cover the losses have been reserved;
— as of November 3, 98% of the affected tokens have been recovered, and this can be independently verified through Proof of Reserves;
— the identified points of entry have been closed, and the affected systems have been rebuilt or replaced;
— device controls, wallet risk controls, and AI monitoring for anomalous activity have been strengthened;
— Binance is also engaging independent cybersecurity firms to conduct additional checks.

As it turns out, hackers exploit vulnerabilities in Apple’s WebKit and JavaScriptCore components to gain access to devices, then malware targets cryptocurrency wallets.
