Following the announcement, the benchmark 10-year yield reached roughly 4.85%, its highest since November 2023. The market reaction came before the scheduled purchases took place. These buybacks support liquidity by giving investors a regular opportunity to sell older Treasury securities. Their purpose is to improve how the market functions.
