#USTreasuryToBuyBackUpTo$6BLongDatedDebt Treasury announced a bigger bond buyback. Yields kept climbing. The U.S. Treasury plans to repurchase up to $6 billion in securities with 10–20 years remaining to maturity on September 10. That triples the previous $2 billion maximum for these operations. Following the announcement, the benchmark 10-year yield reached roughly 4.85%, its highest since November 2023. The market reaction came before the scheduled purchases took place. These buybacks support liquidity by giving investors a regular opportunity to sell older Treasury securities. Their purpose is to improve how the market functions. My take: Better liquidity can help trading conditions, while inflation expectations, debt supply and investor demand still influence yields. One market reaction cannot establish whether the programme works. For $BTC and $ETH, persistently higher yields could pressure sentiment through tighter financial conditions and competition for capital. I’m watching the actual buyback results, inflation data and Treasury auction demand next. What would provide stronger evidence that pressure on long-term borrowing costs is easing? $IOST $SC $PHA
