⚠️ Bitcoin may become more quantum-resistant, but Lightning Network still has another problem to solve.
A new research prototype called PQLN explores post-quantum protection for five Lightning functions, including gossip, encrypted connections, invoices, payment offers and onion routing.
The interesting part is the trade-off.
In testing, the default ML-DSA and ML-KEM setup increased full gossip downloads by 10.2x and stored graph data by 8.8x compared with standard Lightning. Private routing also added extra latency, especially on slower connections.
The bigger point: protecting Lightning’s off-chain communication does not automatically protect the Bitcoin on-chain funds behind Lightning channels. The researchers say Bitcoin-layer upgrades would still be needed.
For traders, this is less about an immediate BTC price move and more about long-term network security and scalability.
Would you accept higher bandwidth and latency if it meant stronger quantum protection for Bitcoin’s Lightning ecosystem?
🔥 XRP traders are watching a major change in derivatives positioning.
XRP reached $1.60 on Sept. 22, with reported trading volume around $7.4 billion. But the more interesting signal came from regulated futures data.
CME leveraged funds reduced their XRP-equivalent net short position by 46.3 million XRP in one week, falling from 82.25M to 35.95M XRP.
Coinbase derivatives showed a very different picture. Across three products, net shorts decreased by only 2.452 million XRP, leaving around 141.6 million XRP still net short.
So this wasn't a broad reduction in bearish positioning across every venue. It was much more concentrated at CME.
For traders, the key question is whether this positioning shift continues or was simply a temporary reset. The next report should provide more clues.
📊 Does this CME short reduction signal improving XRP sentiment, or is it too early to draw that conclusion?
