Spent the afternoon looking at why Babylon added Keystone support for native Bitcoin-backed borrowing on Aave v4 through the Trustless Vaults. @BabylonLabs_io
Keystone is fully air-gapped. No USB data, no Bluetooth, no WiFi. Everything moves only through QR codes. You scan the unsigned transaction from your phone or browser, the four-inch screen on the Keystone 3 Pro shows the full details, you confirm with fingerprint or swipe, then you scan the signed QR back. Those extra seconds are forced by design.
In a Trustless Bitcoin Vault the depositor already signs multiple batches at creation — the Claim transaction graph plus the Payout paths. Those signatures lock every legitimate exit before any Bitcoin enters the final Taproot vault. Once they are signed, no one can invent a new spend. A single wrong signature on a pre-signed path or a liquidation-related transaction can cost far more than the ten or twenty seconds of deliberate checking.
Keystone 3 Pro runs open-source firmware (version 2.0.6 or newer for the Babylon flows), uses three secure elements, and keeps private keys completely offline. The keys never leave the device.
Grabbed my chai and sat with that for a minute. When the whole point is staying self-custodial, the wallet experience cannot train people to click “approve” at full speed. The slow QR loop is not a bug. The friction is the feature.
Still chewing on how rare it is to see a wallet partnership that deliberately makes every signature slower on purpose.
