Spent some time thinking about Dusk's latest point on selective disclosure and one distinction kept bothering me.

In traditional financial markets, proving you're allowed to invest often means handing over far more information than the actual requirement demands.

If an asset is restricted to residents of a certain country, the system needs to know whether you're eligible.

It doesn't necessarily need everyone else to know where you live.

That's the part I find interesting about selective disclosure.

The verification still happens.

The rules still get enforced.

But the underlying personal information doesn't have to become public just because a smart contract needs to check one condition.

That feels particularly relevant as more financial assets move on-chain.

Putting securities on a blockchain makes settlement and automation easier. But if every eligibility check also creates another permanent public data trail, some of the benefits come with a rather uncomfortable trade-off.

Dusk seems to be approaching the problem from the opposite direction.

Prove the condition.

Don't expose everything behind it.

Makes me wonder if privacy in regulated markets will eventually be treated less like an optional feature...

...and more like basic infrastructure for making onchain finance usable at scale.
