💥 CIRCLE LETS INSTITUTIONS BORROW USDC AGAINST BITCOIN WITHOUT SELLING BTC
Circle has launched Digital Asset-Backed Borrowing, allowing eligible institutional Circle Mint customers to access USDC liquidity using Bitcoin as collateral.
The process converts deposited BTC into cirBTC, Circle’s 1:1 Bitcoin-backed token, which can then be supplied to third-party DeFi lending markets on Arc or Ethereum. Morpho is the first supported protocol, with Aave planned for a later rollout.
The loans are overcollateralized, while borrowing rates, collateral requirements and liquidation thresholds are determined by the lending protocols rather than Circle.
For institutions, the model creates a way to unlock dollar liquidity while maintaining BTC exposure instead of selling the asset.
Could BTC-backed borrowing become a major institutional use case for Bitcoin?
