Your stop-loss is not a pain threshold. It’s the point where your trade idea is wrong. 🎯

Too many traders enter first, then drag a stop somewhere “that feels safe.”

That’s backwards.

Before entering a long, ask:

“If price breaks this level, what exactly am I wrong about?”

Example:
You buy because price held a support zone and formed a higher low.

Your invalidation is usually below that higher low—not 1% below entry just because 1% sounds tidy.

Why? If price breaks the structure, buyers may no longer be in control. Your original reason for entering has changed.

Then do the math:

• Identify invalidation
• Measure entry-to-stop distance
• Adjust position size so the loss fits your risk

Never move the stop wider simply because price is getting close. That doesn’t protect the trade idea—it protects your hope. ⚠️

A good stop can still get hit. That doesn’t make it bad. Random stops are bad because they teach you nothing.

Place stops where the thesis fails. Size the trade around that level.

They think, “Maybe the price will come back.”
So they move the stop loss farther away.
