Quand l’électricité est apparue, certains se demandaient :
« Pourquoi avons-nous besoin de cette nouvelle technologie ? »
Avec le temps, elle est devenue le moteur de notre civilisation.
Bitcoin rencontre aujourd’hui une réaction similaire.
Beaucoup demandent :
« À quoi sert Bitcoin ? »
« Pourquoi utiliser une monnaie numérique ? »
« Quel problème cela résout ? »
La réponse commence par une chose : comprendre son fonctionnement et son objectif.
Bitcoin n’est pas seulement un prix qui monte ou qui descend. C’est une technologie basée sur la confiance, la décentralisation et la possibilité de transférer de la valeur sans intermédiaire.
Mais Bitcoin n’est qu’une partie d’une révolution encore plus grande…
Partie 3 — La blockchain : l’infrastructure invisible de demain

Avant de dire « ça ne sert à rien », posons-nous simplement la bonne question :
« Quel problème cette technologie cherche-t-elle à résoudre ? »

Blockchains are excellent at one job: moving value from A to B and making that move final. What they've never done well is the step that happens before the move — deciding whether it should happen at all.
That gap is bigger than it looks. Onchain finance now processes over $700 billion a month, spread across roughly $298 billion in stablecoins and $21 billion in tokenized real-world assets. Almost none of that capital passes through anything resembling a pre-transaction check. In traditional finance, a payment clears compliance, risk, and identity screens before it settles. Onchain, that work either doesn't happen or happens off to the side, in a dashboard or a policy document nobody can verify in real time.
Newton Protocol's mainnet beta, live since June 23 on Base and Ethereum, is built to close exactly that gap. It sits between the moment a transaction is proposed and the moment it settles, checks it against a policy an institution or builder defined in advance, and only lets it through if it passes. Spend limits, sanctions screening, fraud prevention — the kinds of rules that used to live in a compliance team's head — get enforced at the smart contract level instead.
The part worth sitting with is the order of operations. Most tooling today tells you what happened after the fact: a monitoring alert, a flagged wallet, a postmortem. Newton is trying to make the check happen before the transaction clears, so the bad outcome doesn't happen in the first place. That's a meaningfully different guarantee than "we'll catch it eventually."
It's also why the timing matters. Curated DeFi vault TVL has grown more than 350% in the past year — capital is scaling faster than the infrastructure meant to govern it. An authorization layer that arrives after that capital is already onchain is playing catch-up. One that's live now, enforcing real policy on Base and Ethereum today, is at least trying to keep pace.
None of this makes the idea risk-free. This is a mainnet beta — new infrastructure, on two chains so far, whose real-world security depends on how much economic value ends up backing the operator network and how well the underlying data providers perform under stress. An authorization layer is only as trustworthy as the data and operators behind it, and that track record is still being written in public, transaction by transaction.
Still, the direction is the interesting part. Crypto proved capital could move onchain. The open question was always whether the rules governing that capital could move with it, verifiably, without handing control back to a centralized gatekeeper. Newton is one of the first serious attempts to answer that at the protocol level.
