He said the issue became obvious to him while testing the Trust Wallet app, when he found it difficult to even locate his own BNB balance amid the clutter of junk tokens.

In one cleanup round alone, he reportedly burned around 400 million third-party tokens worth close to $1.6 million. But rather than solving the problem, each burn transaction drew fresh attention from traders watching the wallet, and some of those tokens saw sudden price spikes simply because CZ had interacted with them.
The dynamic echoed an earlier controversy involving the GIGGLE meme coin, an unofficial token inspired by Giggle Academy that surged over 300% after launch, despite CZ publicly stating he had no involvement in creating it. That earlier episode had already forced him to repeatedly clarify that meme coins referencing his name or his charity were not officially connected to either.
This time, one meme coin tied to the wallet reportedly surged in market value by as much as $30 million after CZ's cleanup activity was noticed by on-chain analytics accounts. Zhao pointed out the core problem himself: any attempt to remove or burn a token only encouraged more people to send similar tokens to the address, hoping for the same reaction.
The Decision to Walk Away
Facing what he described as a cycle that could not be resolved by manual cleanup, CZ decided the only real fix was to stop using the wallet entirely. His plan, as he explained it, involves donating the wallet's remaining legitimate assets — the BNB and BinanceLife tokens — to Giggle Academy, and then abandoning the address for good.
Once abandoned, the wallet will effectively function as a burn address. Any tokens sent to it afterward will be permanently locked and inaccessible, since CZ will no longer be interacting with or managing the account. He has framed this as the cleanest way to end the ongoing speculation and "over-interpretation" of his on-chain activity, since a dormant, retired wallet gives meme coin creators nothing left to react to.
