What is Dolomite (DOLO)?
Dolomite (DOLO) is a decentralized finance protocol designed to integrate a money market with a decentralized exchange. The platform enables users to engage in lending, borrowing, spot trading, and margin trading, all while optimizing capital efficiency through its virtual liquidity system. This mechanism allows users to utilize their deposited assets for multiple purposes, such as earning lending yields and participating in trades simultaneously.
The Dolomite protocol is structured with a modular architecture that includes an immutable core and a flexible module layer. This design supports adaptability and enables the protocol to integrate thousands of token types, including staked LP tokens and other non-standard assets. The system facilitates smart collateral and smart debt features, allowing users to convert debt and collateral into liquidity, which can then be used for correlated asset swaps. Additionally, it features tools such as Zap and the Strategies Hub to simplify complex DeFi operations, including flash loans, delta-neutral strategies, and pair trading.
Dolomite was developed by Leavitt Innovations, co-founded by Corey Caplan and Adam Knuckey. The team began building decentralized exchange infrastructure in 2018 and launched the current version of Dolomite in October 2022.
The DOLO token powers the Dolomite ecosystem. It is an ERC-20 token deployed on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Berachain, and other networks, with cross-chain operability supported by Chainlink's CCIP technology. DOLO is used for governance, incentive alignment, and liquidity provisioning. The ecosystem includes veDOLO, a vote-escrowed version of the token that provides governance rights and revenue sharing, and oDOLO, a reward token for liquidity providers that can be paired with DOLO to acquire veDOLO at a discount. The token model incorporates a protocol-owned liquidity mechanism and uses a fixed supply of one billion tokens, with a 3% annual inflation beginning in the fourth year.
