Algorand (ALGO) is an open-source blockchain network and cryptocurrency designed to facilitate mainstream adoption of blockchain technology. It also aims to expand the use cases of digital currencies by accelerating transaction verification rates. 

First launched in 2019, Algorand seeks to provide a similar transaction throughput rate as major centralized payment processors like Visa or Mastercard.
