Conflict of Interest

One of the most dangerous risks in investing is:

Your advisor may be able to make money from your decisions.

For example:

A broker recommends an investment product to you and says:

“ This is a great opportunity.”

But the broker earns a higher commission if you buy that product.

The question at this point is not only:

“Is the product good?”

But must be:

“What does the person advising me gain if I buy?”

A conflict of interest is not always illegal.

The issue is whether that conflict is disclosed, managed, and handled correctly according to regulations.

Lesson to apply:

Follow the incentives.

When evaluating an investment recommendation, don’t just look at what they say.

Not every strong pump is manipulation.

Market manipulation refers to intentional actions that create misleading signals about price, supply and demand, or trading activity in order to cause others to misunderstand the market.

For example:

A group of people pushes the price of an asset up together, creating the impression that the market has very strong buying pressure.

Outside investors see the price rising → buy out of FOMO.

The initial group then sells off → the price collapses.

This pattern is often called:

Pump → FOMO → Dump

Some other behaviors that may be related to manipulation include:

Creating fake trades to increase volume.

Placing orders to generate a false supply/demand signal, then canceling them.

Spreading false information to influence prices.

Coordinating trades to create a distorted picture of the market.

Depending on the market and each country’s laws, these actions may be prohibited and dealt with severely.

Lesson:

Price movement is not always real market demand.

When you see an asset’s price rise unusually, don’t just ask:

“How much is the price going up?”

Instead, ask:

“Where does this buying pressure come from, and is it real?”

Traders study charts to understand price.

Securities: What is securities? ⚖️📈

When an asset is considered a “security” (chứng khoán), it’s not just an investment product.

It enters a special legal framework.

A classic example:

Bonds
Investment fund certificates
Some other investment products depending on each country’s laws

Whether an asset is classified as a security is very important because the issuer and the trading parties may have to comply with regulations on:

registration – disclosure of information – investor protection – anti-fraud – market supervision.

This is also why the question:

“Is this crypto a security?”

matters so much.

If the answer is Yes, a whole set of securities-law regulations may apply.

Lesson:

Classification determines regulation.

Ask more:

“What does the law define it as?”
