The main point
Thanks to a small — but growing — number of crypto-friendly destinations and travel companies, you can now make your next vacation a reality using crypto!
Yesu, Bogdan, Sany, and JuMHK from the Binance Angel team share stories about their past crypto adventures.
Learn how crypto helped our Angels and some of the challenges they overcame during their tour.
Hear from Binance Angels about how they travel the world with cryptocurrency. Binance Angels are not employed by Binance but are volunteers who form a community that is passionate about crypto.
Pack your things! It's time to plan your next vacation. If you haven't decided yet, consider traveling to a crypto-friendly destination.
A few years ago, a vacation paid exclusively with coins and tokens was a distant dream. At that time, there were few crypto-friendly destinations to visit and no platforms to book hotels and flights with crypto.
Today, you'll be surprised by the options — and destinations — that make it easy for you to spend and use crypto. Let's hear from Binance Angels as they guide us through their past crypto adventures, from favorite destinations to the benefits and challenges you might encounter.
Where to?
Location, location, location. This is the first step in planning any trip. Are you someone who enjoys snow views? Maybe you're also trying to escape the cold to bask in a tropical paradise.
If you're considering crypto, Binance Angel has some interesting destinations to share.
Jesus
Yesu, who is from Spain, last visited Portugal's coastline in Aveiro — a city often referred to as the “Venice of Portugal” for its complex network of canals and boats. On his trip, Yesu said, “I can fund my entire trip with crypto!”
Bogdan
Bogdan shared his story about his experience at a surf camp in Lanzarote, which is one of the Canary Islands located off the coast of West Africa. “The shop owner accepts bitcoin as a payment option. I can borrow my surfboard and pay with bitcoin via peer-to-peer transactions.”
Number
Sany, a frequent traveler and passionate crypto enthusiast, said that he “frequently uses crypto when traveling to popular destinations such as Dubai, Paris, London, America and Amsterdam.”
Remember, not all countries have the same laws regarding crypto use. It's a good idea to check the legal status of cryptocurrencies in your destination before making flight reservations or hotel bookings.
JuMHK
After landing in Batumi City in late February 2020 — the start of the COVID pandemic — JuMHK decided his best option was to stay put temporarily as airports around the world began to close.
“I enjoyed my stay in Batumi despite the events in the world. The nature is beautiful, the people are very friendly, and the wine is perfect.”
Benefits of Using Crypto When Traveling
Cryptocurrencies have made some inroads into everyday life over the past few years, especially for travel. For example, users can now book flights and hotels using various cryptocurrencies on travel sites like Travala.
Jesus
Yesu won't have to deal with the hassle of bank transfers during her tour of Portugal. To explain how crypto helps his vacation, Yesu said: “I have my money available at any time, and I don't have to use any local banks. When I need to pay for a hotel, I simply transfer BNB to my Binance Card. It only takes me a few seconds to pay.
Bogdan
Continuing his story about the owner of a local surf shop in Lanzarote, Bogdan added: “The experience was great because all I needed was a smartphone. The interesting thing is that the selling point is offline! I scanned the QR code and the payment was successful.”
Bogdan's story doesn't end there. For some travelers, the best part of using crypto abroad may be the new friends and people you meet who share your interest in crypto. “After I paid for the surfboard, I talked to the shop owner about our crypto journey. For me, it is very interesting to share crypto experiences with each other! We both agree utility has not yet been achieved for crypto, but there has been significant progress in recent years.”

Sany is a loyal user of our Binance Card and Binance Pay services. He enjoys using crypto while traveling because it “offers a fast and easy payment solution without having to worry about currency exchange or conversion fees.”
“One of the biggest advantages of using cryptocurrency while traveling is the speed of processing my refund. In the event of a cancellation or refund request, I received my money relatively quickly, directly to my Binance Card,” added Sany.
JuMHK
Unlike our other Angels, JuMHK has no intention of using crypto during his trip to Batumi City. He got word one day via email that his E-wallet account, including the cards in it, was temporarily restricted.
“Thankfully, I learned that Batumi is a crypto-friendly city. "There is a crypto ATM near my place and I immediately made my first crypto ATM withdrawal," added JuMHK.
“As an online freelancer who likes to travel, I rarely use local banks. I have used Binance P2P for years to help with currency conversions, including cash to crypto transactions.”
Overcoming Challenges
Using crypto in a foreign land doesn't always go smoothly, especially if it's your first time. For example, you might find a vendor that doesn't accept crypto, or – even worse – you might lose access to your crypto wallet along the way.
Let's listen to Binance Angel talk about the various obstacles to be aware of when abroad.
Jesus
While enjoying a relatively smooth trip in Portugal, Yesu recalled an interesting encounter with a restaurant owned by a crypto skeptic. “The owner told me not to pay with crypto. However, I showed him my Binance Card and his face changed when he saw it had the VISA logo on it.”
Bogdan
Travelers should remember that although they have gained immense popularity over the years, digital currencies are still a relatively new technology. Not all vendors accept crypto as a payment method.
Bogdan shares some helpful advice when shopping with crypto abroad. “I used btcmap to check where Bitcoin is accepted as a payment option. This is beneficial on trips because not only does it help you find vendors, but you also get to meet interesting shop owners and learn how they started their crypto journey.”
JuMHK
JuMHK reminds users to be careful because not all countries accept crypto as payment or do not yet have crypto ATMs. “Always be ready,” notes JuMHK. “It's best to get a Binance Card if it's available to you. Otherwise, consider using Binance P2P to help you exchange your crypto in other countries.”
Have a safe trip!
