I stumbled across Neymar's profile the other day while browsing Opensea, so I decided to take a look at what NFTs he has. It turns out that the prices he paid for some of his NFTs and what they are worth now are jaw-dropping. This reminded me of other celebrities who paid huge sums for Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) or CryptoPunk, so I decided to record it.

Neymar Jr - Bored Ape Yacht Club #5269

The Brazilian soccer star fueled the NFT craze in January 2022 by buying BAYC#5269for a whopping $569,531, and it is currently valued at $121,992, so Neymar lost $447,539.

Whether it was out of love or whatever, this seems to be more than just a hype purchase.

Neymar actually bought quite a few NFTs in 2022, as his gallery on Opensea shows 63 NFTs. He also owns BAYC #6633, which cost him another $480,359 in January 2022, but this NFT is currently only worth $88,742, so he lost another $391,617.

Another important piece in his collection is the BAYC variant MAYC #10953, for the purchase of which Neymar spent $170,639 in April 2022, which is currently worth only $25,007, resulting in a loss of $145,632.

The other NFTs in Neymar’s collection seem a bit out of place, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were freebies given to him for some reason.

As a result, at the time of writing, he has spent $1,220,529 on three premium NFTs currently worth a total of $235,741, a loss of $984,788.

It amazes me that he owns so many NFTs and is fully into the NFT space, not just one of those celebrities who spends tons of money on just the “monkeys”.

Eminem - Bored Ape Yacht Club #9055

Eminem, one of the greatest rappers of all time, also jumped on the NFT train, purchasing BAYC#9055for $453,776 on New Year’s Eve 2021. It’s currently worth only $88,746, so Eminem has lost $365,030 on it, or about $1,000 a day at the time of writing.

Just like Neymar, Eminem has totally entered the scene as he has 109 NFTs on Opensea. Nothing fancy like his BAYC, but there’s some cool stuff in there. However, his profile sucks because he didn’t put any effort into it, so if you read this, clean up your Opensea profile, bro.

Spending nearly $500,000 for a picture of a monkey is crazy for the average person, but a piece of cake for a celebrity like Eminem.

What I really liked is that he took advantage of his purchase of BAYC because he used their monkey in a music video with another rapper Snoop Dogg which I have to say is pretty awesome.

Snoop Dogg - Bored ApeYacht Club#6723

I have a lot of respect for Snoop Dogg because I know he’s been in the crypto space for a while. In December 2021, he bought a bunch of NFTs worth a total of $366,324, the main one being BAYC #6723.

Other NFTs include two Mutant Apes and a Bored Ape Kennel Club NFT. Those familiar with Snoop Dogg should know that he likes the cheetah's characteristics - leopard print (Doge).

Today, Snoop is not only a collector, but also an NFT creator.

The collection he shows on Opensea currently has about 3,100, although from what I can tell most are the same NFT with just a different token ID, which seems a bit unusual, but at least he's serious about the NFT space. I also believe he has other projects to do, like animal concerts.

Madonna - Bored Ape Yacht Club #4988

Back in March 2022, Madonna bought herself a monkey for $466,461. It is currently worth $88,896, so Madonna lost $377,565 on the purchase.

Madonna also has 29 collectibles on display on Opensea. This includes two World of Women NFTs, which were also quite expensive when she bought them.

Justin Bieber - Bored Ape Yacht Club #3001

Now that's just exciting! Not only did Justin Bieber buy one of the most boring monkeys I've ever seen, but he paid a whopping $1,301,550 for it. It's currently worth only $86,613, so that's a loss of $1,214,937, which is a shocking loss, but luckily for him he's one of the best-selling singers of all time, so he can afford to lose over $1 million without blinking an eye.

Justin’s Opensea NFT profile is also lackluster, but he’s been collecting and currently holds around 1,900 NFTs, so I don’t think he’s buying into the hype that just other celebrities are spending money on NFTs.

Paris Hilton - Bored Ape Yacht Club #1294

Paris Hilton is another big celebrity who bought a monkey in January 2022 for $287,055, which is now worth $86,653, so she is currently losing $200,402.

Paris has been in the crypto industry for a long time, so it is fair to her that she did not suffer a huge loss because she saw the value of NFTs and the future they hold. Her Opensea collection contains about 1,500 NFTs, and she has created nearly 26,000 NFTs so far.

Now let’s talk about other types of NFTs, but before that, other notable celebrities who have purchased monkeys include Jimmy Fallon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Timbaland, and Steve Aoki.

Next up are the CryptoPunks, a series that leaves me confused. At least the monkeys look awesome, but these CryptoPunks remind me of the days when I played games on my handheld Gameboy as a kid. I know they are the oldest NFTs, but no matter how rich I am, I can’t justify spending tons of money on a pixelated little guy. I’d much rather buy a monkey or any other NFT with more aesthetic appeal.

Serena Williams - CryptoPunk #2950

Back in June 2021, tennis great Serena Williams paid $177,123 for this pixelated NFT of a little guy, I guess because it looks like a tennis player. As far as I know, it's not currently listed on any marketplace, so it's hard to value. But if she still kept the 85 ETH she paid for the NFT, she would only be able to exchange it for about $102,876 today, which would be a loss of $74,247.

She has 66 NFTs on her unnamed profile on Opensea, and it looks like she’s spending more on a lot of small projects.

Gary Vaynerchuk - CryptoPunk #2140

Entrepreneur and internet celebrity Gary Vaynerchuk almost overwhelmed me. The cost was $3,953,216 (1,600 ETH) and I can only imagine that he is an ETH whale, because if you spend 2% of your net worth on an NFT, then you definitely need a reason.

Likewise, CryptoPunk#2140is difficult to value, but if he still kept the 1,600 ETH he paid for the NFT, it would be $1,934,367 at today’s prices, so he would have to take a $2 million loss.

I think he is a real NFT collector because his Opensea profile shows that he has 6,800 NFTs, and although some of them have wasted his money, it really doesn’t matter when your net worth is as high as $200 million. "Might as well spend it because you can’t take it with you. (Doge)"

Logan Paul - Bumble Bee

This is the last one I wanted to mention because, influencer Logan Paul paid a whopping $667,000 for it in December 2021 and it is currently worth about $2,000, a loss of $665,000.

In addition, Logan is also the owner of five CryptoPunks (#2294, #6762, #5569, #7861, #4484). The most expensive of them is CryptoPunk #2294, which he bought for 110 ETH ($163,003) on February 25, 2021. But he has publicly announced many times that he will hold these NFTs for a long time and has no plans to sell them in the short term.

summary

Regardless, it’s fun to explore the celebrities who own these super expensive NFTs.

However, we know that the cryptocurrency market operates in cycles, and there is no doubt that the NFT market will rebound significantly during the next bull run.

Will these NFTs ever reach the heights that celebrities paid for them again? I don’t think so, but who knows? Considering the money that celebrities make, which is just spending for them, they may not be bothered by their losses at all. And since these NFTs are owned by celebrities, I guess they will increase in value even more during the next bull run.
