Vanguard, 4.5 million shares of Metaplanet, $7.5 million. The headline is ready; now, about the fund itself.

According to an update from Bitcoin Treasuries, the position appeared in VSS. But:
- VSS tracks an index of small companies outside the US, the FTSE Global ex US Small Cap; the fund itself has 5147 holdings
- Metaplanet makes up about 0.07% of the fund
- And on September 19, 2026, Metaplanet was dropped from the FTSE All-World

Looks like ordinary index mechanics.
The company probably moved into a different basket, and the passive fund bought what was in it.
That doesn’t add up to a manager deciding, “I believe in Bitcoin treasuries.”
And all of this is “reportedly”—no one has shown Vanguard’s own report.

Metaplanet held 44000 BTC as of September 30, 2026, so the stock is essentially $BTC
