Sonic Labs (formerly Fantom) has selected LayerZero to provide interoperability services. LayerZero is a full-chain interoperability protocol that focuses on data messaging between chains. It allows developers to create and configure unified applications, tokens, and data primitives through the transmission of arbitrary messages without being restricted by the chain. LayerZero's goal is to achieve standardization of application development on all chains. This unified cross-chain development concept is summarized as "omnichain", which is also LayerZero's vision for the future of cryptocurrency.
LayerZero's V2 version has been deployed on more than 40 chains and has released a technical white paper. The mainnet is expected to be launched in January 2024. The V2 version introduces upgrades including decentralized verification network (DVN), adapters, X of Y of N modular verification, permissionless execution, security stack, increased throughput, enhanced programmability, unified semantics, and V1 compatibility, aiming to embed itself as a cryptographic primitive equivalent to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
