Bitcoin launched in 2009, originally positioned as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, with deliberately limited scripting functionality.
“Digital gold” and “world computer” are just popular terms used to sum up their different roles—not predictions about their prices.
$BTC and $ETH are the native coins of Bitcoin and Ethereum, respectively, and they don’t serve the same role.

The Pectra upgrade in May 2025 raised that to a target of 6 and a maximum of 9. “Proto-Danksharding” is the first step toward full Danksharding: first, it establishes the transaction format and fee mechanism for blobs, with capacity to be expanded gradually later.
