Defense attorneys have confirmed that CZ has been lodged at the Penitentiary in Lompoc, a low-security federal prison, to begin his four-month sentence as the richest inmate in the country.

“It appears that CZ will not be able to benefit from any earned time credit program and is expected to serve the full 120 days in federal prison," said Sam Mangel, who serves as a federal prison consultant. "While he will be uncomfortable, I am confident that Zhao will be safe and will not be extorted or put in danger.”

I don’t know if CZ will have a relatively independent cell, but the prison staff knows his identity. He was released after four months, so he should know something.

FCI Lompoc has housed several notable inmates convicted of white-collar crimes, including Reed Slatkin, who was convicted of running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history targeting Scientologists, and Mossimo Giannulli, who is best known for his involvement in the college admissions bribery scandal along with his wife, Lori Loughlin.

Gwendolyn Stone, who was once incarcerated in Lompoc Federal Prison, wrote a letter to her family describing what it was like when she first entered. The translation is as follows:

I have arrived and settled in at Lompoc Federal Prison Camp. The people here are very friendly and welcoming. I have no fear for my safety and was able to sleep well. I met a small group of believers who were doing a Bible study on my first night. There seems to be a vibrant prison ministry here. The hardest thing to adjust to is the isolation.

There are several groups called "Che" that eat and hang out together. White people are called "Woods", Hispanics, Chinese/Japanese/Pacific Islanders, and African Americans all sit together at their own tables in the restaurant. If you try to sit with one of them, they tell you "You can't sit here, you're not one of us." There is also a table for independent or unaffiliated people. I sat there with other unaffiliated white people and people from Yemen, India, Iran, etc.

Segregation is mostly just in the dining room and TV room. It feels more like a high school clique than anything else. The leader of each clique controls the channels on their clique's TV. There are several TVs in the room, each with its own FM frequency, allowing anyone to tune in with headphones. I don't have a radio yet, as I won't be shopping until next Monday. While I'm not eager to be in the TV room, I'm most looking forward to buying some nicer shoes. There are some people in this camp from Idaho. They say it's a lot better than the prison in Idaho.

That's all, but it's a glimpse. It can be seen that there are Chinese and Asian groups, so even if there are no separate cells, there shouldn't be serious racial discrimination issues. I wish CZ a good rest, reading and writing books, and look forward to his new memoirs.
