At the end of last year, Bitcoin core contributor Casey Rodarmor created Ordinals. After that, the emergence of Ordinals and BRC-20 brought about the entire Bitcoin ecosystem, and the transaction volume also increased extremely. However, the innovation of Bitcoin has never stopped, and now there are new ways to play it. What are "rare satoshis" and "epic satoshis"? This article will take you to learn about the priceless "Song"!

What is BRC-20

The name is a play on Ethereum's ERC-20 standard, which utilizes sequence number inscriptions of JSON data to deploy token contracts, mint tokens, and transfer tokens. The BRC-20 standard is an experimental fungible token standard created by @domodata on March 8 this year. With BRC-20, everyone can issue tokens on the Bitcoin network just like on Ethereum

What are Ordinals

A Bitcoin can be divided into multiple units, each unit is called a "Satoshi", and the Ordinals protocol engraves text, pictures, music, videos and other files on each Satoshi through the Inscription action to identify and trade each unit. A single Satoshi. The BTC NFT that emerged earlier is based on the same principle, so Ordinals also have the same characteristics as Bitcoin: decentralization.

What is "rare Satoshi"?

Each Bitcoin is composed of 100 million satoshis, called satoshis (or sats). The Ordinals protocol numbers satoshis, and each satoshi has its own digital number. Regarding the rarity of Satoshi, according to the official documentation of Ordinals, it is essentially a distinction given based on some regular events in Bitcoin itself. For example, in the Bitcoin world, some events occur frequently and some are rare. These events naturally form a rarity system.

BTC Ordinals are inscribed directly on individual Satoshis and then incorporated into blocks of the Bitcoin blockchain, so Ordinals inscriptions inherit the simplicity, immutability, security, and durability of Bitcoin itself.

These regular events include:

  • Block: A new block will be mined approximately every 10 minutes, always this value.

  • Difficulty Adjustment: Every 2016 blocks, that is, every two weeks, the Bitcoin network adjusts the difficulty target based on changes in hash rate.

  • Halving: Every 210,000 blocks, that is, every four years, the reward mined per block is halved.

  • Cycle: Every 6th halving, something magical happens: the halving and difficulty adjustment happen at the same time. This is called an "overlap" and the period of time between overlaps is called a "cycle". "Overlap" occurs approximately every 24 years. The first overlap should occur around 2032.

How to check the rarity of the inscription in my wallet?

  1. Open the Unisat wallet and click "ALL"

  2. Click on the inscription you want to query and copy the "id"

  3. Go to ordinals.com and paste the copied id

  4. On the inscription’s information page, search for “sat” and click on it.

  5. You can know the rarity of Satoshi by looking at the location in the picture below!
