Multi-billionaires Elon Musk and Warren Buffett may not see eye-to-eye on certain issues, but they recently agreed on what is the “true currency.”
With the animosity of the “Oracle of Omaha” toward Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, despite having a sizeable investment in Nubank, that means they’re already out of the choices.
A prominent Bitcoin writer, however, believes BTC is time.
Elon Musk: Time is the True Currency
Recently, Musk posted on X, “Time is the true currency.” This is obviously a paraphrased version of the age-old proverb saying, “Time is money.”
However, the world’s richest man in 2024 made the statement as a nod to a callback of Buffet’s 2016 interview with Bloomberg where the Berkshire Hathaway chairperson said, “If there was anything left on my bucket list, I would have done it. Money has no utility to me. Time has utility to me.”
Isn’t It Ironic?
All these came from two people the majority thinks have devoted or sacrificed much of their time to accumulate wealth. Buffet, in particular, is already 93 years old with an estimated $137.4 billion net worth this year, yet, he is still active in the financial world.
On the other hand, Musk is now worth $210.2 billion, which surpasses the former richest man in the world, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton founder, Chair, and CEO Bernard Arnault. He remains active as an investor and key figure in several companies, including but not limited to Tesla, SpaceX, and the rebranded Twitter.
However, as Buffet once stated, “Busy is the new stupid.” This is something he uttered during a discussion with Bill Gates, to which the Microsoft co-founder and former CEO agreed on.
Contrary to popular belief, Fortune claimed “Buffet’s work-life balance is remarkably healthy.” He gets plenty of sleep, plays the ukulele, and plays bridge during most of his free time.
The same couldn’t be said with Musk though, who often works seven days a week and only takes a time off two to three days in a year. He also admitted to be struggling to keep at least six hours of sleep daily because he already adjusted to a nocturnal habit. But then again, besides his family, he finds time to play his favorite video games to de-stress, including the original Quake, Bioshock, Elden Ring, Fallout, Warcraft, Mass Effect, and Civilization, among others.
Bitcoin is Time
A pseudonymous Bitcoin writer, Gigi, however, boldly declared that “Bitcoin is time.” He pointed out that the cryptocurrency’s block height corresponds to a measure of time.
Likewise, Gigi remarked it is “the true key-machine of the modern informational age.” The writer further likened the digital asset’s network to a “decentralized clock” while its “stored time” is money.
Complementing his argument is the earlier comment of Craig Wright who has been failing miserably to prove he’s Satoshi Nakamoto so far. The self-proclaimed inventor of the most popular crypto on the planet once claimed that the early draft of the Bitcoin whitepaper referred to BTC as “timecoin.”
The published Bitcoin whitepaper never mentions timecoin even once in its entirety though.
