原文:《Embrace Being an Idiot - It WILL Make You a Better Crypto Investor》by Theo Delarosa

How to become a successful crypto investor is a long-standing topic. Do ordinary people invest because of technical specifications and "fundamentals"? Are the small pictures and Meme coins that make people rich because of better fundamentals? Theo Delarosa takes a different approach and explores from another perspective why fundamentals will not make you a better cryptocurrency investor, and what is a better way.
Recent buzz has established that cryptocurrencies are currently driven primarily by hype, narrative, and catalysts. Think about yourself or someone you know. What drew you to this space? Was it that you saw others making tons of money here, or was it that cryptocurrencies were revolutionizing the world?
Get it? There is no doubt that decentralization and how blockchain can revolutionize our financial system is a very good selling point! It attracts and captures the imagination of many new investors. Let’s be honest, maybe you are indeed attracted by this narrative, or know someone who is attracted by it.
If you want to be successful in the long term, you have to put yourself in the mindset of the buyer, you have to sell them something. That's how you make money. What are you selling them? It can be a service or a product, but mostly it's associated with an idea, a feeling, a brand, a story or an impression. People believe in stories, and the easier it is to understand, the better.
For example, the following two explanations:
Complex description (Broke): Zero-knowledge After the data availability nodes are concisely proved, the modular data layer allows cross-chain zero-channel compression finality, thereby achieving Byzantine acyclic settlement consensus and ultimately achieving interoperability x-chain vault income optimization cross-chain transfer. Emotional description (Bespoke): It can quickly and securely transfer the things you care about to a place with many new opportunities, so that you can make money!
Which one would you choose?
Choose simple ideas that even a person with zero IQ can understand. It protects your funds, saves you money, is faster, solves a problem, etc. This is something that appeals to a broad audience, these are things people care about. How many L1s, wallets, DEXs, lending, etc. exist? Will the company that is slightly better than many of its competitors succeed?
Isn't all this due to speculation?! As history has proven time and again, when there is hype and speculation, there is opportunity. So this is our focus. Cryptocurrency may end up being the future, or it may not - only true adoption will determine that. What we can control is to lower our IQ to look at cryptocurrencies.
Let’s explore this further by looking at some things that have happened and looking at things from a different perspective based on the two descriptions in the example above (Broke, Bespoke).
Past Narrative NFTs
Broke: These are just little images with no intrinsic value or use. There's no way I'm going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a JPEG, and it's only a matter of time before it's gone to zero.
Bespoke: A new asset class has entered the world! People love new things. It creates hype, interest, speculation, and attracts a large number of people who want to build their own brands. It smells like money!
L1
Broke: Smart people know that Ethereum will be the dominant L1 because its technology and specs are the best in my opinion, and spending money on other L1s is pure idiocy.
Bespoke: Ethereum is pretty expensive for new users... there's no way the average person can afford $25-50 in gas fees. It's definitely exciting to see all these new chains that are focused on their own specific use cases. They're attracting the capital, builders, and users that were priced out of ETH.
GameFi and the Metaverse
Broke: The technology is still in its early stages, and the game graphics don't look as good as the 4399 mini game. In addition, the economic model is not mature. This is a large Ponzi scheme!
Bespoke: Games are really important in the real world! Being able to leverage blockchain into gaming will be huge. The token economics and in-game economic models of several early projects may be terrible, but gaming is one of the most likely ways to attract millions of new users into crypto.
Meme
Broke: No skills, no use, far from a meme.
Bespoke: Really, most people got into crypto or heard about crypto because some meme coin made some people a lot of money. That’s what attracted people and created liquidity growth. Dreamers dream big.
AI
Broke: AI has nothing to do with cryptocurrency. It’s a pure blockchain scam.
Bespoke: AI is the next revolution for mankind, and its integration with blockchain will bring the next opportunity to make money!
at last
At the end of the day, it’s important to understand the market landscape, the players, their goals and motivations, and the pros and cons of various different sectors and narratives. Embracing idiocy in crypto doesn’t mean becoming a physical idiot, but rather opening your mind to understand how people in the broader market think. Put yourself in their shoes, see what they see, and think the way they think.
Be the smartest idiot.
