According to Foresight News, Optimism announced that it will suspend ETH withdrawal services for one hour on February 15th to test its upgraded accident response system. This test will affect ETH withdrawals from Layer2 to the Ethereum mainnet but will not impact deposits from the mainnet to the second layer network and normal transactions on the network. The goal of this upgrade is to improve the coordinated response capabilities of different chains within the Optimism ecosystem in the event of a security incident.
The new accident response system will support the on-chain suspension of Ethereum withdrawals and add a feature that allows the suspension of token and NFT withdrawals within the Superchain scope, applicable to Optimism and Optimism-based chains that choose to join. OP Labs announced the system upgrade on January 25th, stating that the upgrade aims to not only strengthen the security of individual chains but also leverage the collective security intelligence of the entire Superchain.
