- The main goal: to reach 100,000 transactions per second on the mainnet and layer 2.

- Improving interoperability between layers 2.

- Solving data availability and compression issues.

- Increasing trust in layers 2 and improving user experience.

Buterin noted that Ethereum must scale to avoid the risks associated with low throughput on the mainnet.
