A new Ethereum improvement proposal, EIP-7781, is set to be submitted on October 5, 2024, and aims to reduce Ethereum's block time from 12 seconds to 8 seconds. 🚀

Proposed by Ben Adams of Illyriad Games, the upgrade could also increase network throughput by 50%. Developer Cygaar called it a "first huge" step toward improving Ethereum L1 performance.
