Which asset is most likely to become the next
$BTC ? BlackRock’s answer: computing power.
In the past decade,
$BTC turned electricity into an asset. In the coming decade, computing power may also become a financial asset in its own right.
Looking at how production is organized, AI agents are gradually taking over human work. They can spend money on their own to complete tasks, and crypto may be the only way for AI to make payments. Why?
Because it offers high frequency, small amounts, and low friction.
AI agents need to buy data, call APIs, rent GPUs, and subscribe to software every day. Many of these transactions may be worth only a few cents. But payment systems such as credit cards and ACH have many limitations on transaction amounts and frequency. Agents need a financial system that machines can access directly, that settles instantly, and that supports payments as small as a few cents.
Therefore, blockchain-based crypto payments have become the only solution. Among them, proof-of-work tokens whose consensus is based on computing power could very well become the BTC of the next AI era.
Computing power may become a financial asset in its own right. At present,
$PRL is the asset token that comes closest to this idea.
In the future, AI inference is expected to consume most of the world’s electricity. BTC is an asset based on “electricity,” but that consumption produces no utility. Assets based on “computing power,” however, can perform AI inference while consuming electricity.
