🔥 A water heater that can mine Bitcoin? Heatbit launches Bitwater
On October 22, Heatbit—the maker of “mining space heaters”—announced a new product: Bitwater, a water-heater element that can mine BTC. The official post has received over 280,000 views.
How it works:
🔹 It directly replaces the existing heating element in an electric water heater, and is compatible with the 30- to 80-gallon storage-tank electric water heaters commonly used in the U.S. and Canada
🔹 Rated for up to 34 TH/s, with 20 BM1370 chips, efficiency starting at 12 J/TH, and power consumption of around 600 W
🔹 Water-cooled and fanless, so it’s silent—and they say you can install it yourself
🔹 The first batch is available for preorder at $899, with shipping planned for Q1 2027
🔹 It won’t work with gas or tankless water heaters; the company says a gas version is in development
The idea is pretty simple: the heat produced by a mining rig is still heat. Since you’re already using electricity to heat water, you might as well mine some coins along the way and effectively get a discount on your hot water bill.
My take: What’s interesting isn’t how much money it can make, but that it brings mining out of data centers and into the water heaters of homes everywhere, spreading hash power more widely. But don’t treat it as an investment product. People in the community have already estimated it could take 2 to 3 years to break even, depending on electricity rates, water usage, the price of Bitcoin, and mining difficulty. It hasn’t shipped yet, either, so its real-world performance is still unproven. And as for posts claiming “global hash power could rise by 285% if everyone installed one”—take that with a grain of salt.
If you really want to mine, would you do it—or just buy BTC? Would you spend $899 to “mine while you shower”? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments 👇
