Hey everyone, today let’s talk about APT, or Aptos—the new blockchain once hyped as a “Solana killer.” Its price is looking pretty rough now, but the team still has a solid foundation.
First, a look at the market. APT is currently trading around $0.71, with a market cap of $600 million, ranking around 48th by market cap. It’s down 2.5% over the past 24 hours, and its recent performance has been weak.
1. Aptos has a strong pedigree
The core Aptos team consists of the original members behind Facebook (now Meta)’s Libra/Diem stablecoin project. The Move programming language was also developed by Meta. In terms of technical pedigree, Aptos is among the top-tier public blockchains.
Its technical strengths: Move is designed with security and high performance in mind, and in theory can support large-scale applications. There’s no denying its solid technical foundation.
2. Why has the price fallen so hard?
APT has dropped more than 90%, from a high of $11 to around $0.71. The reasons are pretty straightforward:
First, the ecosystem hasn’t taken off. Its TVL and active user numbers are clearly behind Solana and Sui, and there are still too few developers in the Move ecosystem.
Second, the narrative has faded. The buzz around “new blockchains” has been captured by projects like Sui and Hyperliquid, and Aptos has no new story to tell.
Third, there’s pressure from token unlocks. APT’s unlock schedule is ongoing, steadily increasing supply and weighing on the price.
3. Is there anything to look forward to?
Aptos is still making moves: it has some initiatives in gaming, partnerships with Microsoft and Google Cloud, and decent institutional connections.
But honestly, none of these partnerships has yet translated into real on-chain activity. For a public blockchain, what ultimately matters is the ecosystem and actual usage.
4. My take
APT is a classic case of “a strong pedigree but a tough situation.” At $0.71, with a market cap of $600 million, it doesn’t seem expensive for a blockchain with Meta roots.
But cheap doesn’t mean it will go up. Among Move-based blockchains, Sui has clearly pulled ahead of Aptos, and investors are more willing to go where the buzz is.
If you’re thinking of getting into APT early, I’d suggest treating it as a “lottery-ticket allocation”: keep your position small, be patient, and wait for the day its ecosystem really starts gaining traction.
Do you think Aptos can still catch up with Sui? Would you buy at $0.70? Let’s chat in the comments.
