Spot Bitcoin ETFs Shed $485 Million, Erasing October Inflows
US spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $484.9 million in net outflows on Oct. 7, the largest daily withdrawal since June 25. The print erased $321.6 million of early-October inflows, leaving the month about $163 million in the red. BlackRock’s IBIT led with $207.7 million out, while ether ETFs lost $160.9 million in a seventh straight outflow session. US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded their largest daily outflow since late June on Wednesday, reversing an early-October inflow streak as prices stayed under pressure from energy-market stress. Investors pulled a net $484.9 million from the products on Oct. 7, according to Farside Investors. That was the biggest single-day withdrawal since June 25, when the funds lost $691.7 million, Cointelegraph reported from the same dataset, and it fully erased the $321.6 million in net inflows logged over October’s first four trading sessions. The month is now about $163 million negative. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the withdrawals with $207.7 million, a sharp reversal from the $122 million it took in on Tuesday, Farside data show. Fidelity’s FBTC shed $105.1 million and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB lost $101.7 million. Grayscale’s GBTC and Bitwise’s BITB also posted net outflows, of $39.3 million and $27.6 million. The move landed a day after the funds had attracted $118.8 million, their fourth positive session in five. Spot demand had still been a support into the selloff: CoinDesk reported that US bitcoin ETFs took in about $119 million on Tuesday even as bitcoin slipped below $84,000. Ether products fared no better. US spot ether ETFs recorded $160.9 million in net outflows on Oct. 7, a seventh consecutive negative session, according to Farside Investors. BlackRock’s ETHA accounted for $116.1 million of that total, with Grayscale’s ETHE contributing $25.8 million. Citing the same flow set, Cointelegraph said ether funds have shed roughly $569 million since Sept. 29. Price action remained soft into Thursday. Bitcoin traded near $82,700, down about 2% over the prior 24 hours, Cointelegraph reported, citing CoinGecko. Earlier in the week, CoinDesk said bitcoin fell below $84,000 after attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz pushed Brent crude above $101 a barrel and lifted Treasury yields and the dollar. Crypto liquidations reached $547 million in that move. For traders, the flow print is the cleaner signal. A net outflow requires authorized participants to redeem shares, which typically means the issuer sells spot bitcoin. Wednesday’s redemption wave, concentrated in the three largest products, points to institutions cutting exposure rather than rotating between funds. One-day prints can reverse — June 25 was larger — but the swing from Tuesday’s inflow to Wednesday’s $484.9 million exit shows how quickly ETF demand can flip when oil and yields rise. Vitalik Buterin Warns AI Advancements Could Undermine Cryptography Security
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has raised concerns regarding the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, cautioning that rapid advancements in AI models could potentially weaken cryptography security across digital ecosystems. The remarks highlight growing apprehension among blockchain technologists regarding how machine learning capabilities might be leveraged to exploit cryptographic systems. As detailed in recent industry coverage by Cointelegraph, Buterin pointed out that while AI offers numerous optimization tools for software development, it simultaneously introduces novel vectors for vulnerability analysis and code decompilation. This dual-use nature of artificial intelligence could accelerate the discovery of zero-day exploits faster than traditional developers can patch them. The implications for decentralized finance and blockchain architecture are significant. Core cryptographic primitives—such as zero-knowledge proofs, elliptic curve cryptography, and hashing algorithms—rely heavily on mathematical hardness assumptions. If advanced AI agents can systematically analyze and find flaws in complex codebases or cryptographic implementations at scale, protocols could face unprecedented systemic threats. Industry analysts note that developers are increasingly turning to AI-assisted coding tools to audit smart contracts and build decentralized applications. However, Buterin’s caution serves as a reminder that malicious actors can leverage identical technologies to automate vulnerability scanning and target blockchain networks with greater precision. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, the cryptographic community faces an urgent need to develop quantum-resistant and AI-resilient security measures to safeguard foundational blockchain infrastructure. IMF Highlights Tokenized Markets As Financial Stability Concerns Grow
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has published new analysis focusing on the systemic risks associated with tokenized markets and digital assets. According to the institution, rapid growth in tokenized assets and stablecoins could introduce new channels for financial contagion. The report highlights the urgent need for harmonized global regulation to monitor leverage and liquidity mismatches in decentralized and traditional financial crossovers. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised fresh concerns regarding the rapid expansion of tokenized markets, warning that blockchain-based financial instruments could pose hidden risks to global stability. In recent statements shared across digital channels, including an official post by IMF News, the organization emphasized that while tokenization promises increased efficiency and transparency, it simultaneously introduces complex challenges for macroeconomic regulators. As traditional financial institutions increasingly experiment with real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols intersect with conventional markets, the IMF noted that liquidity mismatches and sudden deleveraging events could spread faster than in legacy systems. The institution pointed out that stablecoins, which often serve as the primary collateral layer in tokenized ecosystems, require more stringent oversight to prevent runs similar to traditional banking panics. Market analysts have closely monitored the intersection of institutional adoption and regulatory scrutiny. In a detailed breakdown provided by CoinDesk, researchers noted that the IMF’s latest warnings focus heavily on how automated smart contracts can exacerbate market downturns by executing liquidations simultaneously without human intervention. Despite these warnings, major financial institutions continue to push forward with tokenization initiatives, viewing blockchain architecture as a cornerstone for future settlement systems. However, the IMF’s intervention underscores the balancing act facing policymakers: fostering financial innovation while constructing robust safeguards against systemic contagion. Regulators globally are expected to ramp up compliance frameworks, focusing on cross-border data sharing, reserve transparency for stablecoins, and tighter controls over leveraged crypto-asset trading. Federal Reserve Minutes Highlight Debate Over October Rate Pause and Future Policy Path
The Federal Reserve’s latest meeting minutes show officials debated the trajectory of monetary policy amid lingering inflation concerns and labor market shifts. Policymakers expressed caution regarding the October rate path, emphasizing a data-dependent approach for upcoming decisions. Crypto markets and broader financial sectors continue to monitor macroeconomic signals as liquidity expectations adjust to central bank guidance. The Federal Reserve has released the minutes from its recent policy meeting, highlighting an internal debate among central bank officials regarding the pace and extent of future interest rate adjustments. According to the official FOMC minutes, policymakers closely scrutinized economic indicators during the October discussions to determine the appropriate timing for subsequent monetary easing. During the deliberations, several participants noted that while inflationary pressures have shown signs of moderating toward the central bank’s 2% target, core inflation remains somewhat elevated. This dynamic prompted a segment of the committee to advocate for a more cautious approach to avoid prematurely loosening financial conditions. Conversely, other members pointed to cooling indicators in the labor market as a rationale for continuing recalibration of the federal funds rate toward a more neutral stance. Market participants and crypto traders are closely analyzing the nuanced language of the minutes for clues regarding the central bank’s November and December decisions. As detailed in updates from CoinDesk, the overarching consensus centers on a gradual reduction in borrowing costs, provided that incoming economic data aligns with baseline projections of stable growth and declining price pressures. Risk assets, including cryptocurrencies, have historically been sensitive to shifts in Federal Reserve policy expectations. A slower pace of rate cuts could influence liquidity conditions across digital asset markets, where traders often price in macroeconomic liquidity cycles well in advance. As central bank officials reiterate their commitment to reacting dynamically to incoming employment and inflation reports, market volatility may persist as participants re-evaluate their end-of-year portfolios. Federal Reserve Minutes Reveal Focus on October Pause and Inflation Risks
Federal Reserve officials discussed the rationale behind maintaining interest rates during a recent policy meeting, highlighting persistent economic complexities. Market participants continue to analyze macro signals and central bank guidance to gauge the trajectory of future monetary policy decisions. Risk assets, including cryptocurrencies, remain highly sensitive to shifts in interest rate expectations and liquidity conditions. Federal Reserve officials engaged in detailed discussions regarding the economic implications of maintaining a steady policy stance during their recent deliberations, according to records released to the public. The release, which has drawn intense scrutiny from traditional finance and crypto market participants alike, underscored how policymakers balance the risks of persistent inflation against potential over-tightening in the broader economy. During the sessions, committee members analyzed various economic indicators to determine the appropriate path forward. The debate over whether to implement further adjustments or maintain a steady approach has become a central theme for investors attempting to predict macro liquidity trends. As detailed in the official FOMC meeting calendars and releases, officials emphasized the data-dependent nature of upcoming decisions. Crypto markets have historically demonstrated acute sensitivity to shifts in central bank rhetoric. When borrowing costs remain elevated for longer periods, risk-on assets such as digital assets often experience compressed valuations due to tightening financial conditions. Conversely, any indication of a dovish pivot or a more permanent pause typically injects optimism into the market, driving increased trading volumes across decentralized finance and spot tokens. Market analysts are now turning their attention to upcoming employment reports and Consumer Price Index (CPI) readings to validate the central bank’s current trajectory. As traders position themselves for the remainder of the quarter, monitoring macroeconomic indicators remains paramount for navigating volatility in both traditional and digital asset sectors. Robinhood Adds $25 Million in Bitcoin to Corporate Balance Sheet
Retail-focused brokerage giant Robinhood has added $25 million in Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet. The treasury allocation follows the company’s Q4 earnings report and broader expansion into digital asset markets. The move places Robinhood alongside other publicly traded firms integrating cryptocurrencies into their corporate finance strategies. Retail trading platform Robinhood has expanded its corporate treasury strategy by acquiring $25 million in Bitcoin, according to details disclosed in recent financial filings and covered by CoinDesk. The strategic allocation marks a notable step for the traditional and crypto brokerage as it deepens its engagement with the digital asset ecosystem. The $25 million Bitcoin purchase was executed as part of the company’s broader treasury management approach. While fintech firms and tech companies like MicroStrategy and Tesla have famously adopted Bitcoin as a reserve asset, Robinhood’s inclusion highlights a shifting sentiment among mainstream financial institutions that cater heavily to everyday retail traders. Market analysts note that the treasury purchase aligns with Robinhood’s recent product expansions in the crypto sector. The company has continuously rolled out features tailored to crypto enthusiasts, including its dedicated crypto wallet, expanding token listings, and international rollout of trading services. Integrating Bitcoin directly onto the corporate balance sheet demonstrates executive confidence in the long-term viability and store-of-value properties of the leading cryptocurrency. Despite regulatory scrutiny surrounding the digital asset industry in recent years, major fintech players continue to build infrastructure and hold assets on-chain. As the corporate treasury landscape evolves, market participants will be watching to see if Robinhood scales up its digital asset holdings further or if other mainstream brokerages follow suit with similar balance sheet allocations. Bitcoin Slips Below $84,000 As Long Liquidations Reach $487 Million
Bitcoin briefly traded as low as about $83,800 late Tuesday, slipping under $84,000 after failing near $86,600. Crypto liquidations reached $555.6 million over 24 hours, including $487.2 million in long positions. Brent crude rose to about $101.50 and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.31% as tanker attacks lifted oil. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs still drew $119 million on Tuesday, while ether funds lost $202 million. Bitcoin fell under $84,000 in early Wednesday trading, giving back a push toward Tuesday’s session area near $86,600 as leveraged long positions were forced out and macro markets leaned risk-off. The largest cryptocurrency traded as low as about $83,800 late Tuesday and was at $84,071 as of 11:20 p.m. ET, down 1.7% over 24 hours. A sharper slice of the decline ran from 01:45 to 02:10 UTC on Oct. 7, when bitcoin dropped from $85,341 to $83,790. A separate market read put the low near $83,840 and had bitcoin just above $84,200 after a roughly 1.5% fall. Derivatives absorbed the harder hit. Crypto liquidations totaled $555.6 million over 24 hours, including $487.2 million in long positions, with about $429.8 million — including roughly $415.3 million in longs — concentrated in a four-hour window, according to CoinGlass figures. Exchanges also liquidated $403.58 million in longs within a single hour as bitcoin slid from about $85,500 toward $83,800. Ethereum longs accounted for $155.12 million of that flush, ahead of bitcoin longs at $115.73 million, while aggregate open interest stood at $150.24 billion, down 2.45%. Ether fell 3.3% to $2,612 on one reading and about 3.5% to $2,610 on another. Dogecoin led major-token losses with a 5% drop to about $0.09, Hyperliquid’s HYPE fell nearly 4% to about $91, and XRP lost nearly 3% to about $1.46. BNB, Solana, Zcash and Tron each slipped between 1% and 2.5%. Macro markets set the tone. Brent crude rose almost 1% to about $101.50 a barrel as Iran stepped up attacks on tankers. The dollar strengthened against every other Group-of-10 currency, and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed three basis points to 5.31%. MSCI’s Asia Pacific gauge fell 0.6%. FxPro said a sustained break below $83,000 could put bitcoin on a quick path toward $80,000, and that a hold under $84,000 would mark “a victory for the bears.” Dan Khus, chief analyst at LVRG Research, said the market had already priced in a hike, so traders were watching “whether the notes sound patient or still point to one more increase before the end of the year.” North Macro wrote that “$400M getting cleaned out that fast says positioning was part of the move, not just a sudden change in Bitcoin’s long-term case.” Spot flows did not move in lockstep with price. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $119 million in net inflows on Tuesday, reversing Monday’s $90 million outflow, according to SoSoValue data. Ether ETFs lost $202 million the same day, extending a six-session outflow streak to about $408 million. XRP funds took in $3.1 million, while Solana funds saw $3.7 million in outflows. At publication, bitcoin was at $83,971, down 2.1% over 24 hours. For traders, the nearest levels are the $83,000 area flagged by FxPro and a liquidity pocket CoinGlass placed near $82,600, about $1,600 below prices around $84,200. A reclaim of the $86,600–$87,000 zone that capped bitcoin on Tuesday would suggest the flush was a leverage reset rather than a break of the recent range. At publication, bitcoin was at <strong>$83,971</strong>, down <strong>2.1%</strong> over 24 hours.</p><p>For traders, the nearest levels are the <strong>$83,000</strong> area flagged by FxPro and a liquidity pocket <a href="https://news.bitcoin.com/de/market-updates/bitcoin-kurs-rutscht-unter-84000-dollar-20-minuten-sturz-loescht-400-mio-longs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CoinGlass placed near $82,600</a>, about $1,600 below prices around $84,200. A reclaim of the <strong>$86,600–$87,000</strong> zone that capped bitcoin on Tuesday would suggest the flush was a leverage reset rather than a break of the recent range.</p>

FinCEN Withdraws Unhosted Wallet Reporting and Crypto Mixing Proposals
FinCEN withdrew a December 2020 proposal that would have required banks and money services businesses to keep records on self-custodial wallet transfers above $3,000 and report those above $10,000. The agency also withdrew an October 2023 finding that would have designated international crypto mixing a primary money laundering concern under Section 311 of the USA PATRIOT Act. Neither proposal was finalized, so existing obligations are unchanged, though FinCEN said it will keep monitoring mixer activity and may act later. The U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network withdrew two long-pending digital-asset proposals on Monday, closing a 2020 plan to report large transfers to self-custodial wallets and a 2023 effort to treat international crypto mixing as a primary money laundering concern. In an Oct. 5 announcement, FinCEN said it had considered public comments and was withdrawing both proposals “as part of the Trump Administration’s deregulatory agenda and ongoing efforts to ensure digital asset regulations are fit-for-purpose.” The notices are scheduled for publication in the Federal Register on Oct. 6, 2026. The older rule, originally published at 85 FR 83840 on Dec. 23, 2020, would have required banks and money services businesses to verify customer identity, keep records, and file reports on certain convertible virtual currency transactions involving unhosted wallets. Coin Center, which opposed the proposal for years, said it would have forced institutions to collect counterparty information on unhosted-wallet transfers above $3,000 and report those exceeding $10,000. The withdrawal notice states that FinCEN will take no further action on that notice of proposed rulemaking. A separate withdrawal notice, signed by FinCEN Deputy Director Jimmy L. Kirby, rescinds the agency’s finding that international convertible virtual currency mixing is a class of transactions of primary money laundering concern. The original proposal, published at 88 FR 72701 on Oct. 23, 2023, would have imposed a special measure requiring covered institutions to apply enhanced recordkeeping and reporting, including customer identity details such as name, date of birth, address, email address, or unique identifying numbers. FinCEN said commenters warned that the “expansive definition of CVC mixing” could have a “chilling effect on legitimate activity” and place a large reporting burden on covered financial institutions. The notice quotes the administration’s position that it “supports the ability of lawful users of digital assets to privately transact on a public blockchain,” while noting that illicit actors still use mixers. The agency said it “will continue to monitor activity involving CVC mixers” for money laundering, terrorist financing, or other illicit finance and “may take appropriate steps in the future.” Because neither proposal was finalized, the withdrawals do not change financial institutions’ existing Bank Secrecy Act obligations. Coin Center called the decision “a significant victory for financial privacy.” Executive director Peter Van Valkenburgh wrote on X that both rules were “officially withdrawn,” but added that “the underlying statutory authority to create new, similar bad rules remains.” The post FinCEN withdraws unhosted wallet reporting and crypto mixing proposals appeared first on Cryptopress.

Evernorth Completes SPAC Merger to Expand Institutional XRP Treasury Strategy
Evernorth has finalized its business combination with a special purpose acquisition company to scale its corporate treasury operations. The newly formed entity aims to bridge traditional capital markets with the XRP ecosystem through structured institutional accumulation. Market participants are closely monitoring how the move will impact liquidity and corporate adoption patterns within the digital asset sector. Digital asset treasury management firm Evernorth has officially announced the completion of its SPAC merger, marking a significant milestone for corporate exposure to the XRP ledger ecosystem. The transaction introduces a new publicly traded vehicle designed specifically to hold and manage XRP as a primary treasury reserve asset. According to official corporate communications shared via the company’s official X account, the business combination allows Evernorth to access public capital markets directly. This structural shift provides institutional investors with a regulated, equity-based avenue to gain indirect exposure to XRP price action and yield-generating initiatives native to the network. The completion of the merger comes amid a broader wave of corporate treasury diversification strategies, as publicly listed firms increasingly seek digital assets to hedge against macroeconomic volatility. By structuring its operations around a dedicated treasury model, Evernorth plans to execute systematic accumulation phases while maintaining transparent reporting standards required by public markets. Industry analysts point out that vehicle structures like this could pave the way for deeper integration between traditional finance (TradFi) and altcoin-focused liquidity pools. However, market observers also emphasize that regulatory scrutiny surrounding digital asset treasuries remains a critical factor as these entities scale their balance sheets. Trading of the newly merged entity’s shares is expected to commence imminently under a designated ticker symbol, providing further price discovery mechanisms for market participants tracking institutional demand for XRP. Further details regarding capital allocation schedules and initial reserve holdings are anticipated in upcoming regulatory filings.
