Tether says it holds about 150,000 BTC. Its Sept 30 report implied about 100,000
Did Tether really add about 50,000 BTC in a month, or does the 150K count something the audited line doesn't? Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said in his Plan B Forum talk in Lugano that the company holds about 150,000 $BTC, worth more than 11.5B USD (reported today by Wu Blockchain, ZeroHedge). Why the number stands out: - Tether's Q3 attestation (BDO, published Oct 30) valued its bitcoin at 8.37B USD as of Sept 30, at 83,621.23 USD per coin. That works out to roughly 100,060 BTC. - At the end of June it was roughly 98,930 BTC, so Q3 added only about 1,100 coins. - 150,000 vs about 100,000 is a gap of about 50,000 BTC, roughly 3.8B USD at today's price. - For scale: Tether's policy is to put up to 15% of quarterly net profit into BTC. 15% of Q3's 1.5B USD profit is about 225M USD. What we don't know: whether Tether bought that much in October, or whether the 150K includes bitcoin held outside the reserve line (indirect exposure, mining, other entities). Nothing published so far breaks it down. Until there's a wallet list or the Q4 report, treat 150K as a CEO's round number, not an audited figure. The cushion side: Q3 excess reserves were 7.95B USD on 191.5B USD of assets, with 132.4B USD in direct and indirect T-bill holdings. Because BTC buys come from profits, a BTC drawdown hits that buffer first, not the $USDT backing, at least as the policy is described. Tape (Binance, 02:14 UTC Nov 3): - BTC 77,040 USD, -1.74% 24h (range 76,664 to 78,878) - BTC 1h closes since the 01:13 UTC report: 77,114, then 77,040. Flat. Context, not cause: the headline didn't move price. BTC was already red on the day, and the market is waiting on Tuesday's US midterms. My take: a bigger BTC stack at the largest stablecoin issuer reads as a long-term bid, but a 50K-coin gap deserves an on-chain answer, not just a keynote line. US Treasury plans to run its cash pile down 134B USD by year-end, then rebuild it to 1T by March
Liquidity watchers got their number. The US Treasury plans to let its cash pile fall by about 134B USD before New Year, then rebuild it to 1 trillion by March. Tailwind for crypto, or just a short window? What we know (Mon Nov 2, 3 PM ET release): Treasury expects to borrow 618B USD in privately-held net marketable debt in Oct-Dec. That is 10B below its August estimate, but only because the quarter started with more cash. Strip that out and borrowing needs are 24B higher.- It kept the end-December cash assumption at 850B USD. The quarter opened with 984B, so the plan implies a drawdown of about 134B by year-end.- For Jan-Mar 2027 it expects to borrow 800B USD and to end March with 1.000 trillion in cash, a rebuild of about 150B.- Background: the Treasury account at the Fed held about 1,016B USD on Oct 28. Bank reserves averaged about 2,894B in the week to Oct 28, down 69B on the week (Fed data via CryptoSlate).- Next: the refunding statement on Wed Nov 4 at 8:30 AM ET brings the auction mix (bills vs coupons) and buyback plans. Why it matters: when Treasury spends down its Fed account, that money lands in bank reserves, all else equal. When it rebuilds the account, reserves get drained. The plan points to some relief into December and a pull back in Q1. The tape (Binance spot, 22:43 UTC, 24h): $BTC 76,824 (-1.2%)- $ETH 2,252 (-0.3%)- $PAXG 3,954 (+1.4%)Context, not cause. BTC was already down on the day before the 3 PM ET release, and the hour after it barely moved. My take: this is a slow-moving tailwind, not a trigger. A 134B drawdown is real money, but heavy coupon issuance on Wednesday could soak up part of it, and the March rebuild undoes it. Watch Wednesday's mix and the weekly reserves print. The "whale" buying 27,553 ETH overnight was a thief: 106M USD drained from an EU entity's accounts
That overnight "whale buying ETH like crazy" was not a bull. ZachXBT says it was a thief spending stolen stablecoins. Would you have read that bid as bullish? What we know (Mon Nov 2): ZachXBT flagged a suspected theft of more than 106M USD from exchange accounts of an unnamed EU entity, taken on Sunday Nov 1. Neither the victim nor any exchange has confirmed the loss.- An on-chain trace by Bitquery counts about 108.8M USD in USDC leaving three exchange accounts (OKX, Kraken, Crypto.com) from 12:25 UTC Nov 1, about 73.2M of it in the three hours to 23:00 UTC. Bitquery says nothing points to a breach of those exchanges: the withdrawals came from one customer's accounts.- From just before midnight UTC, one fresh wallet swapped about 63M USD of USDC and USDT into 27,553 ETH (avg about 2,286) in roughly four hours. Lookonchain had flagged it at 01:17 UTC as whale buying.- Part of the funds went through instant exchanges (Kyrrex, WellWallet) and into Monero via Wagyu, and some was bridged to Tron. ZachXBT is highly confident it is NOT Lazarus Group.- At 13:47 UTC Bitquery still saw about 78.3M USD on Ethereum in thief-linked addresses, mostly ETH that no issuer can freeze. Only about 3.7M was still in freezable USDC. The tape (Binance spot, 19:43 UTC, 24h): $ETH 2,241 (-0.8%)- $BTC 76,779 (-1.3%)- $XMR 118.70 (+4.8%)Context, not cause. ETH now trades just under the thief's 2,286 average, so that overnight bid has turned into ETH that may get sold as it moves through bridges and swaps. My take: a big on-chain buy is not a signal until you know where the money came from. Fresh wallet, stablecoins from exchanges, ETH forwarded within hours: that is a laundering pattern, not accumulation. Watch the remaining ETH wallets and whether Circle freezes the USDC left. Brazil's Mercado Bitcoin freezes withdrawals after a 40M+ USD drain across 10 chains. Who's next? Four days after Binance, another exchange hack. Brazil's largest crypto exchange, Mercado Bitcoin, froze all deposits and withdrawals today after wallets linked to it were drained across at least 10 blockchains. Is this a one-off, or are attackers now working down the exchange list?
What we know (Mon Nov 2): - Mercado Bitcoin says it "identified and swiftly contained" a security incident overnight, with no customer losses and no data leak. Deposits and withdrawals are paused as a precaution. Bloomberg reports it will absorb all losses. - Security firm Hypernative estimates more than 40M USD in suspicious outflows. Most of it moved in a 34-minute window (06:19-06:53 UTC), with sweeps of BTC deposit addresses starting at 02:15 UTC. Plain transfers, not a smart contract exploit, so the attacker had signing access somehow. - Flagged holdings: about 2,852 ETH, 106 BTC, 10,700 SOL and 6.7M XLM plus 200+ other tokens. Arkham groups 36 addresses holding about 46M USD. - Tether froze more than 4.5M USDT tied to the incident. The exchange published the destination addresses for tracking. - The exchange has not confirmed a loss figure, which system was hit, or a reopening date. No attribution, and no public link to the Binance attack.
The tape (Binance spot, 16:38 UTC, 24h): - $BTC 77,464 (-0.8%) - $ETH 2,270 (+0.1%) - $SOL 93.53 (-1.2%) - $XLM 0.1674 (-0.2%) Context, not cause. 40M USD is small next to the Binance breach, and the majors barely moved. The risk is the pattern: two exchange hot-wallet breaches in one week.
My take: watch whether the 106 BTC and 2,852 ETH start moving toward mixers or bridges, and how fast Mercado reopens. If more exchanges pause withdrawals this week, sentiment (already in fear) takes another hit.
Do you keep anything on an exchange right now, or is it all self-custody after this week?
Standard Chartered went live with a 24/7 tokenized deposit service there, and institutions have already settled real transactions on it.
Quick context: - It runs under the HKMA's Project Ensemble, built for round-the-clock settlement of tokenized deposits - HKMA is widening the trials to regulated stablecoins - Ties into HSBC's RedCoin and the Fintech Week push
Crypto never sleeps, and now part of TradFi doesn't either. Meanwhile BTC is sitting around 77.9K under the 80K level.
Do 24/7 bank rails help stablecoins, or compete with them?
Polymarket got hit through a third-party script, so is "decentralized" really safe when one monitoring script can pause trading?
Polymarket just set a $3.9M refund plan after a compromised third-party monitoring script caused a temporary trading pause. Users are getting reimbursed, which is the right move.
My take: the smart contracts weren't the weak link, a vendor script was. After this week's big exchange hack headlines, supply-chain risk is the thing to watch. Fast, clean refunds keep trust, but prediction markets will need tighter vendor audits.
Binance reopened withdrawals this morning, three days after the record 6.3 billion USD hack. Users moved fast: close to 3.8 billion USD left in about 10 hours. Is that a bank run, or just people doing what they could not do since Thursday?
What is new (Sun Nov 1): - Phase one opened at 06:00 UTC with the Bitcoin network first. It covers 15 networks and assets, including BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, BNB, SOL and XRP, ranked by last week's user demand. Binance warns of delays while traffic stays high. - Binance now says about 95% of the stolen amount is covered (90% Saturday). Balances in its top 10 assets are 100% backed. The missing 5% is smaller, less liquid tokens it is still buying via market and OTC. - About 3 billion USD of the stolen funds is frozen, mostly stablecoins. BTC and ETH cannot be frozen that way. - Binance says withdrawals spiked at the open and are now stabilising, and that deposits are significant too.
The numbers: - Crypto Briefing: nearly 3.8 billion USD withdrawn in about 10 hours. - DefiLlama's Binance wallet dashboard (16:39 UTC) shows about 4.25 billion USD net outflow over 24h, against about 131 billion USD still tracked. Roughly 3%.
The tape (Binance spot, 16:39 UTC, 24h): - $BTC 78,055 (+0.6%) - $ETH 2,268 (+0.7%) - $BNB 711.6 (+0.8%) - $SOL 94.68 (-1.5%) Context, not cause. Billions leaving one exchange did not move the majors much today, so my read is that much of it is people relocating coins, not dumping them.
My take: some outflow was guaranteed after three days with the exit locked. The test is the next 48 hours: does the outflow fade, do the remaining networks reopen on time, and does the full proof of reserves land as promised?
Will you leave funds on Binance after this, or have you already moved them?
NEAR leverage is coming back faster than the price.
News from TradeAssi briefs: https://tradeassi.com/en/news/8e94266e-2a6b-42be-89e7-acea54a5a3e6
What the brief says: NEAR derivatives open interest crossed 1.1B USD, a sign of more speculative positioning.
Background: CoinGlass showed 1.099B at 10:41 UTC Nov 1. Other trackers note NEAR OI already topped 1B and neared 1.9B during October, so this is a rebuild, not a record.
The tape (Binance spot + Hyperliquid, pulled 14:10 UTC Nov 1 / 9:10 AM Bogota): - NEAR 4.391, down 0.7% in 24h, range 4.351 to 4.569 - October candle: 5.34 open, 4.436 close, about -17% for the month - BTC 77,978 (+0.6% 24h); BTC closed October down 7.2% - Hyperliquid NEAR OI 53.5M NEAR (about 235M USD), funding at base rate - HL NEAR perp volume 67M USD in 24h vs 57M on Binance spot
My take: OI up while price goes sideways means new positions on both sides, not a direction. Funding at base says longs are not paying up yet, so this does not look like a crowded long. Perp volume above spot volume does say the move is leverage-driven.
What would change my mind: funding turning clearly positive while price stalls under 4.57, or a flush below 4.35 that wipes OI fast.
Reference levels only, not a plan: - Below: 4.351 (24h low) - Above: 4.569 (24h high)
I keep TradeAssi price alerts on NEAR at 4.35 and 4.57 so I am not glued to the chart on a Sunday.
ETH ETFs just logged their longest outflow streak ever while ETH closed October down 16%
US spot Ethereum ETFs sold out of ETH for 23 trading days in a row. October is now closed. Was that the capitulation, or is the ETF bid simply gone for now?
What is new (Glassnode data via Crypto Briefing): - 23 consecutive trading days of net outflows through Oct 30, the longest streak since the funds launched in July 2024. - October outflows topped 1 billion USD, the biggest monthly drain of 2026. Farside's tally puts the month at about 1.61 billion USD. - Oct 30 alone: 155.8 million USD out, and BlackRock's ETHA was 76.6 million USD of it, about half the day. - September was the opposite: about 832 million USD of inflows. - Bigger picture: cumulative net inflows since launch are still about 12.29 billion USD, with about 13.22 billion USD in net assets. Note: trackers do not fully agree on the streak. Farside shows a few small inflow days in October, so treat "23 straight" as Glassnode's count.
The tape (Binance spot, 02:08 UTC Nov 1): - $ETH October candle: 2,686 open, 2,256 close, about -16%. Low 2,174 on Oct 30. - ETH/BTC October: 0.03212 to 0.02908, about -9.5%. Now 0.02919. - $ETH now 2,269 (+1.1% 24h), about 4% above the October low. - $BTC 77,778 (+0.5% 24h). - Hyperliquid ETH funding is at the baseline rate, open interest about 977K ETH. No crowded side.
My take: the ETF wrapper crowd has been the marginal seller all month, while the crowd that holds ETH on-chain kept staking (Crypto Briefing says staking set records in the same window). ETH lost ground to BTC too, so this was not just a market-wide dip. The first green ETF day in November would tell us more than any chart line. Until then, 2,174 is the level I care about.
I am watching TradeAssi whale alerts to see if big Hyperliquid wallets start buying where ETF holders keep selling.
Does the ETF streak break first, or the October low?
FBI officially names North Korea's TraderTraitor for the Binance hack and asks crypto infra to block the funds
Until today the FBI only said it was "aware" of the Binance theft. Now it has named who did it. So what can anyone actually do about stolen ETH that has no issuer to freeze it?
What is new (FBI announcement, Sat Oct 31): - The FBI attributes the theft of more than 6 billion USD from Binance (around Oct 29) to North Korean activity it tracks as TraderTraitor, the same group it blamed for the 1.5 billion USD Bybit theft in Feb 2025. - Together with the Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation, it published a list of linked addresses and asked THORNode operators, RPC operators, instant exchanges, DeFi services and analytics firms to block transactions tied to them. - The agencies say the stolen assets are being converted mainly into ETH, and they expect more laundering through DeFi and instant-swap services.
Why it matters: - Stablecoin issuers froze part of the haul within hours. ETH has no issuer, so stopping it now depends on the services the funds pass through next. - This is a request, not a sanctions designation or a court order. A blocked transaction is not a recovered one. - THORChain is named directly. Its public node API (22:46 UTC) still shows trading paused on 11 of 13 chains after this morning's reorg halt; AVAX and XRP have resumed. - Binance still targets Nov 1 for restarting withdrawals.
The tape (Binance spot, 22:46 UTC Oct 31, 24h): - $BTC 77,642 (+0.8%) - $ETH 2,258 (+0.9%) - $BNB 703.4 (+0.5%) - $RUNE 0.655 (+1.4%) Context, not cause. A quiet tape does not mean the market has priced the laundering risk either way.
My take: an official attribution and a public address list make the trail harder to use, but the real scorecard is freezes and funds returned. Watch which providers confirm blocks, and whether the Nov 1 withdrawal restart holds.
Do you think the FBI's block request will actually slow the laundering?
THORChain halts swaps on all chains after an Ethereum reorg caused a 10 ETH double refund
THORChain halts swaps on all chains after an Ethereum reorg caused a 10 ETH double refund How "final" is a deposit that a cross-chain bridge has already seen? THORChain just found out the hard way. One Ethereum block got swapped out, and a 10 ETH mistake was enough to stop swaps across the whole network. What happened (Sat Oct 31): - At 11:34 UTC Ethereum had a one-block reorg. THORChain's own post-mortem says a 10 ETH deposit sat in the dropped block and never made it back onto the main chain. - THORChain had already observed and finalized that deposit. The swap then failed its price limit and was refunded, so the vault paid out 10 ETH it never received. The real deposit from the same sender was refunded too. - Result: one vault is 10 ETH short, and one wallet got about 10 ETH extra. THORChain says nothing points to intent (the wallet has used THORChain for almost two years). - The automatic solvency halt fired. Core devs paused all chains as a precaution while they verify the sequence and ship Bifrost/thornode fixes. No ETA. Why the safeguards missed it: - Every node saw the reorg within seconds, but the re-check that should have dropped the deposit did not get a clear answer in time, so finalization went through on the cached observation. The Binance angle: - Chainalysis linked the halted route to funds stolen from Binance and laundered by DPRK-linked actors (Crypto Briefing, TokenPost). The pause was an accident, not a move against those funds, but it slowed that laundering path. Status right now: - THORChain's public node API (inbound_addresses, checked 19:44 UTC) still shows trading paused on all 13 external chains it lists, including BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP and BSC. Outbound signing is still on for most of them (off for SOL and GAIA). - Per THORChain, swaps sent during the halt are held or refunded once a chain resumes. ETH on the affected vault stays halted until the 10 ETH is recovered or written off. The tape (Binance spot, 19:42 UTC Oct 31, 24h): - $RUNE 0.674 (+5.5%), 24h range 0.636 to 0.733 - $ETH 2,255.38 (+0.9%) - $BTC 77,620.66 (+1.2%) Context, not cause. RUNE being up on the day does not mean the market has priced the halt either way. My take: the loss is small, 10 ETH. The lesson is not. Any protocol that reacts to deposits on another chain is only as safe as its reorg handling. And it is a hard week for "decentralized and unstoppable": the same pause that hurt normal users also held up hacker money. Watch for chain-by-chain restarts and how the 10 ETH gets settled. Would you trust a bridge more or less after a halt like this? Source: https://tradeassi.com/en/news/b8b9c98b-bafe-4006-9b12-ee178fd60511 Not financial advice. DYOR.
Binance hack: 90% now covered, top 10 assets 1:1, 7,499 BTC out of SAFU, withdrawals target Sunday
Binance hack: 90% now covered, top 10 assets 1:1, 7,499 BTC out of SAFU, withdrawals target Sunday Is a "fully backed" statement enough for you, or are you waiting for the math? Binance's Saturday hack update comes with a reserves snapshot and on-chain movement, not just a promise. What changed since Friday: What Binance says now (Oct 31): - About 90% of the roughly $6.3B in stolen token assets has been replaced, up from 80% a day earlier (Cointelegraph). - Balances in 10 assets are fully backed 100%: BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, RLUSD and ZEC. - The missing 10% is in less liquid tokens outside that list. Binance keeps buying them through market and OTC deals. - Sources: corporate treasury, part of SAFU, part of the futures insurance fund. No split by source given. - CNBC: "covered" means Binance replaced the backing, not that 90% was recovered from the attacker. The on-chain part: - 7,499 BTC, about $581M, left the SAFU wallet on Saturday. The Defiant says Binance confirmed it as part of the replenishment. - Crypto Briefing put SAFU at about 15,000 BTC before this. Binance says it will rebuild the fund to about $1B. - My rough math, not Binance's: if 15,000 is right, about 7,500 BTC is left, near $582M at today's price. Getting back to $1B needs roughly 5,400 BTC more. Proof of reserves: - New snapshot taken at 00:00 UTC Oct 31. The full zero-knowledge proof takes 40 to 50 hours to generate, and it is now expected by Nov 3. On Friday the talk was Monday. - Baseline from the Oct 1 snapshot: BTC 100.35%, ETH 100.00%, USDT 103.88% (Crypto Briefing). - CertiK said on Friday it needed more information to verify the $5B replacement claim. The Nov 3 proof is the first point where outsiders can check. What to watch: - Withdrawals: still paused. Binance says it is on track for Sunday Nov 1, subject to security checks, reopening in phases, token by token. - The last 10%: if smaller tokens stay closed for long, their order books on other venues could get messy. The tape (Binance spot, 16:47 UTC Oct 31, 24h): - $BNB 705.40 (+0.7%), 24h low 696.00 - $BTC 77,614 (+0.3%), 24h range 76,326 to 77,745 - $ETH 2,253.06 (+1.2%) Context, not cause. A quiet Saturday tape is not proof the market believes the update. My take: 90% plus a top-10 list is real progress, and the SAFU transfer shows money moving, not just words. But a statement on Oct 31 is not evidence. A Sunday restart without delays and a clean Nov 3 proof are. If either slips, stress comes back fast. Would you withdraw on day one, or wait for the proof? Nasdaq-listed NXTT may sell or pledge 5,833 BTC: what it means for the tape
A tiny Nasdaq company with a big bitcoin stack says it might let it go. News from TradeAssi briefs: https://tradeassi.com/en/news/0f95d5c1-6dd8-4612-91ed-9e8a969ea9c6 https://tradeassi.com/en/news/99d0f438-55f8-4793-a29d-3e77b04c21ce What the briefs say: Next Technology Holding (NXTT) authorized the sale or lending of its 5,833 BTC, about 450M USD, citing the Binance hack and quantum computing fears. Background (company release, Oct 30): the CEO picks timing, price and size. Options are exchange sales, block trades or BTC-backed loans. No schedule, no promise any deal happens, and none of its BTC sits on Binance. The tape (Binance spot, pulled 14:09 UTC Oct 31): - BTC 77,528, up 0.7% in 24h - 24h range 76,326 to 78,110 - 76,326 is also the 30-day low (30-day high 87,220) - Oct 1 open was 83,624, so BTC is down about 7.3% into the monthly close - Hyperliquid BTC funding at base rate, OI 41,052 BTC (40,545 yesterday): leverage not really coming back My take: 5,833 BTC is about 60% of the last 24h of Binance BTCUSDT spot volume (9,686 BTC), so it is real supply. But block trades or a loan would not touch the order book. The bigger signal is mood: a treasury company citing custody risk is the opposite of "buy every dip". What would change my mind: news of actual exchange deposits from NXTT, or BTC losing the 30-day low on volume. Reference levels only, not a plan: - Below: 76,326 (24h and 30-day low) - Above: 78,110 (24h high), then 78,804 (Oct 30 high) I have TradeAssi price alerts set on BTC at 76,326 and 78,110 so the monthly close does not eat my weekend. Is regulated perp trading finally coming to the US via DeFi rails?
ICE, the owner of the NYSE, is partnering with Hyperliquid's developers to launch regulated perpetual futures in the U.S. - Both crypto and stock perps are in scope - TradeXYZ is also involved - HYPE jumped roughly 13-15% on the news
My take: perps are where most of the volume lives, and a regulated US venue would pull serious institutional money on-chain-style. Big legitimacy win, though I'd watch how much of the decentralized part survives compliance.
Tether Q3: $1.5B profit, reserve buffer nearly doubles to $7.95B, and BTC now tops the buffer
Tether Q3: $1.5B profit, reserve buffer nearly doubles to $7.95B, and BTC now tops the buffer Tether published its Q3 2026 attestation today, prepared by BDO. In a week when traders are asking hard questions about where their money sits, the biggest stablecoin issuer just showed its balance sheet. Here is what is in it, and what is not. The numbers (as of Sep 30, per Tether): - Total reserve assets: $191.5B. Total liabilities: about $183.5B, almost all of it USDT in circulation. - Excess reserves (the buffer): $7.95B, up from $4.1B at the end of Q2. An increase of about $3.8B in one quarter. - Q3 net operating profit: $1.5B, in line with Q2. About $4.5B for the first nine months of 2026. - Most of the income came from US Treasury bills and reverse repos. - Direct and indirect T-bill holdings: $132.4B. Cointelegraph notes that is close to South Korea's $134.2B and above the UAE's $116.1B in US government debt. - USDT issuance held broadly steady around $184B through the first three quarters. The bitcoin part: - Tether's BTC reserves were valued at $8.37B at Sep 30, up from about $5.8B at the end of June (Cointelegraph). - That means the BTC pile is now bigger than the whole $7.95B buffer. - My rough math, not Tether's: BTC closed Sep 30 at about $83,624 on Binance and trades near $76,632 now, about 8.4% lower. If the BTC holdings are unchanged, that is roughly $0.7B off their value, which would leave the buffer nearer $7.25B, all else equal. Still positive, but it shows how much the cushion now leans on BTC. What the report does not tell you: - An attestation is a snapshot of one day (Sep 30), not a check of activity through the quarter (The Defiant). - Tether says KPMG US completed its first full financial statement audit in August, but those statements have not been made public. Why it matters this week: - Tether is one of the issuers that froze stablecoins tied to the Binance theft, and USDT is the main quote asset on most exchanges. A bigger buffer is the number that matters if redemptions spike. - USDT is about 60% of a $297.3B stablecoin market (DefiLlama via Cointelegraph). The tape (Binance spot, 19:41 UTC Oct 30, 24h): - $BTC 76,632 (-5.3%), 24h low 76,326 - $ETH 2,232.67 (-4.5%), 24h low 2,174 Snapshot only, not proof of cause. My take: the profit headline is the boring part. The real story is that the safety net nearly doubled while BTC became its biggest swing factor. Next attestation, watch whether the buffer grows faster than the BTC position. Does a BTC-heavy buffer make you more or less comfortable holding USDT? Top-10 Hyperliquid wallet that sold BTC at $85.9K is back: a fresh ~$16.7M long near $77K
Top-10 Hyperliquid wallet that sold BTC at $85.9K is back: a fresh ~$16.7M long near $77K On a day when $BTC hit a 30-day low and Binance is still dealing with its hack, one of the biggest wallets on the TradeAssi whale leaderboard went the other way and bought. What TradeAssi's whale tracker caught (wallet 0x1bbf...5fc4, #6 on the leaderboard, ~$3.94M total PnL per the tracker): - Today 17:38-17:50 UTC: opened about 109 BTC at ~$77,211 avg (~$8.4M). It started from a flat BTC position. - 18:21-18:27 UTC: added about 108 BTC at $76,900 (~$8.3M). - Total now: 217.22 BTC at ~$77,056 avg, ~$16.7M notional, 2x cross. Account value about $8.29M, liquidation price about $38.8K. - Still open at 19:43 UTC: unrealized about -$94K. No open orders on the book. Why this wallet is worth a look (Hyperliquid public fills, last 60 days): - Sep 2: opened ~175 BTC at ~$77,212 from flat, added ~24 BTC at ~$80,891 on Sep 3. - Oct 2: sold all ~199.7 BTC at ~$85,933. Realized about +$1.65M. - Then nothing for four weeks. Zero fills between Oct 2 and today. - Today's first entry (~$77,211) is almost exactly where it bought in September. Not a bot: only 273 fills in 60 days, all in four sessions. Low leverage, no grid, no churn. Read the tape honestly: it is already slightly underwater, and it bought into a falling market. One wallet buying is not a bottom call. It sold the last round $8.7K higher, which is the level it would need to see again to repeat that trade. Context, not cause: BTC is down about 5.3% in 24h on Binance (24h low $76,326) as the Binance hack, a Nasdaq 100 sell-off and $1.6B+ in liquidations hit the tape. On Hyperliquid, BTC funding is at the base rate and open interest is about 40.9K BTC. I am not saying any of this is why the wallet bought. Market check (Binance spot, 19:41 UTC): $BTC ~$76,632 (-5.3% 24h). $ETH ~$2,233 (-4.5%). On TradeAssi I'm following this wallet with whale alerts, to see whether it keeps adding, holds, or cuts. Would you buy where this wallet bought last time, or wait for the hack headlines to settle? Not financial advice. This is what the tracker saw, not a trade signal. #WhaleAlert #Hyperliquid #BTC Source: https://tradeassi.com/en/alerts
Binance hack update: $6.34B set aside, North Korea named, withdrawals target Sunday
Yesterday we flagged a suspected drain from Binance hot wallets, with estimates from $2.5B to $5.8B and no confirmation. In the last 24 hours the picture firmed up: the hack is confirmed, the size is clearer, Binance has said who pays, and investigators have named a suspect. The size: TRM Labs puts the theft at about $6.36B, moved out of Binance wallets on 10 blockchains, most of it in about 20 minutes from 20:05 UTC Thursday. Chainalysis puts it at about $6.4B.That makes it the largest crypto theft on record, roughly four times the $1.5B Bybit hack of Feb 2025. Who (per the analytics firms): TRM ("high confidence") and Chainalysis both attribute it to TraderTraitor, the North Korean group the FBI blamed for Bybit.Chainalysis says it saw stolen Binance funds commingling in real time with proceeds of last month's Bitget exploit. North Korea has denied past hacking allegations. How: On Ethereum, the attacker used an EIP-7702 delegation to turn a Binance hot wallet into a sweeper, with 50 pre-signed authorizations prepared in advance (TRM).On the other nine chains, funds left through ordinary signed transfers, which TRM reads as a compromise of Binance's hot-wallet signing infrastructure.Binance says its investigation began with a compromised engineer's laptop and has since found "additional points of breach". Who pays: Binance says it has reserved more than $6.34B of company funds to cover user losses. About $5B is already held in the exact tokens that were stolen; the rest is being bought via market and OTC, which may take longer for low-liquidity tokens. Frozen assets are not counted in that figure. Frozen vs still loose: Tether, Circle, Ripple and World Liberty Financial froze about $2.67B in stablecoins, and Arbitrum's Security Council froze 8,426 ETH and 74.6M ARB (TRM). Binance puts the total frozen at about $3B.The attacker still holds more than 420,000 ETH and 18,270 BTC, about $2.4B beyond any issuer's reach. What to watch next: Withdrawals are still paused. Co-CEO Richard Teng is targeting a restart by Sunday, within about 40 hours of his Friday remarks, but only if the rebuilt withdrawal service passes testing (The Defiant).Teng also promised a full Proof of Reserves report by Monday.Any large sales of the unfrozen ETH and BTC would hit spot liquidity. The tape (Binance spot, 16:40 UTC Oct 30, 24h): $BNB 702.06 (-6.3%), 24h low 680.00$BTC 77,566 (-4.8%), 24h low 76,500$ETH 2,238.47 (-5.1%), 24h low 2,174 Snapshot only, not proof of cause. My take: the reserve number and the Monday PoR report matter more than any screenshot. If withdrawals reopen on schedule and the PoR checks out, the worst-case fear fades. If the date slips, expect another leg of stress. Are you waiting for the PoR report, or already positioned? Coinbase Premium hits a 4-year low as BTC tests 76,500: US buyers step back
US spot buyers went quiet, and one gauge shows it. The tape (Binance spot, pulled 14:17 UTC Oct 30): BTC 76,755.7, down 4.6% in 24h24h range 76,500 to 81,97176,500 is also the 30-day low (30-day high 87,220)Oct 1 open was 83,624, so BTC is down about 8% on the monthHyperliquid BTC funding at base rate, OI 40,545 BTC vs 43,525 a day ago: leverage flushed, not rebuilt News context from TradeAssi briefs: https://tradeassi.com/en/news/41b9cc18-6d15-4a76-b336-5d09c8ff100e https://tradeassi.com/en/news/364fd264-d3a4-47b6-b022-87cd3befbbba https://tradeassi.com/en/news/f0cb6124-148c-4f49-8778-37a8bd9d8303 What the briefs say: the Coinbase Premium dropped to a four-year low, a level last seen right after the FTX collapse in Nov 2022, and liquidations jumped to 1.57B as BTC and ETH slid on the Binance security headlines. Background: CryptoQuant data has the index at about -0.27% on Oct 29. CEO Ki Young Ju called the mood "bearish enough to be bullish". My take: a deep negative premium means US buyers on Coinbase are paying less than the global USDT market. That fits a week with the Fed on hold on Wednesday and a big exchange incident. The Nov 2022 reading came near a cycle low, but one indicator is not a bottom call. What would change my mind: the premium climbing back toward zero while BTC holds 76,500. Reference levels only, not a plan: Below: 76,500 (24h and 30-day low)Above: 78,800 (today's high), then 81,971 (24h high) I keep TradeAssi price alerts on BTC at 76,500 and 78,800 so I am not glued to the chart. Contrarian signal or more US selling ahead? Not financial advice. DYOR. #BTC #Bitcoin #CoinbasePremium #CryptoMarket #Liquidations
Coinbase Q3: 719M profit, but 715M was crypto on its own books. Prediction markets are the story
Coinbase printed a 719M USD profit for Q3. About 715M of that came from gains on crypto it holds on its own balance sheet. Strip that out and adjusted net income was 78M. So the headline is mostly a mark-to-market number. The business underneath is the useful part. What Coinbase reported (Oct 29, after the US close) Total revenue about 1.22B, flat vs Q2 and down 35% vs a year ago.Transaction revenue 590M, down 1% vs Q2 but above the roughly 527M analysts expected. Consumer spot volume was down 59% year over year per the 10-Q.Trading volume 134.5B, global market share 10.7%, the fourth straight quarterly gain.Prediction markets passed 200M in annualized revenue, only launched in February. Daily traders up 60%+ vs Q2.Subscription and services 570M, about 49% of net revenue, with 307M from stablecoins. Average USDC held in Coinbase products hit a record 22B.Same filing: CEO Brian Armstrong adopted a 10b5-1 plan to sell up to about 8.17M shares (roughly 1.31B) from Nov 16 through Oct 2027, above preset price thresholds. Ehrsam and Choi have plans too. My take This is a quarter where retail spot trading dried up and Coinbase still held revenue flat. That came from predictions, derivatives and stablecoin revenue, not from people buying coins. It also tells you how quiet spot retail has been. The insider sale plans are pre-scheduled, so I would not read them as a call on price, but the size is worth knowing. Tape check (Binance spot 24hr, pulled 02:11 UTC Oct 30, reference only) BTC 76,985, down 3.8% on 24h, range 76,500 to 81,971ETH 2,203, down 4.5% on 24hUSDC/USDT 1.0016 The tape today is about other headlines, not this earnings report. Question for you: if spot volume stays this low, do exchanges become prediction market and stablecoin businesses first, and trading venues second? I track exchange headlines like this in the TradeAssi news feed, sorted by impact and sentiment. A top-40 Hyperliquid wallet opened a fresh ~$3.3M ETH long, 20x, as Binance hack fears hit
A top-40 Hyperliquid wallet opened a fresh ~$3.3M ETH long, 20x, as Binance hack fears hit While the market was digesting reports of a suspected Binance hot-wallet drain, one of the wallets on TradeAssi's Hyperliquid leaderboard went long $ETH from zero. What TradeAssi's whale tracker caught (wallet 0xb885...3c54, #37 on the leaderboard, ~$1.54M total PnL per the tracker): 21:55-21:58 UTC today: opened a NEW ETH long of 1,450 ETH at ~$2,274.34 avg, about $3.30M notional, 20x cross. The first fill started from a flat ETH position.Still open at 22:43 UTC: mark ~$2,278.6, unrealized about +$6.2K.Right after, 22:03-22:08 UTC, it opened shorts in ENA (985K, ~$179K) and kPEPE ($413K). The rest of the book (so you see the whole picture): An older BTC long: 44.19 BTC at ~$89,642 entry, about $3.5M, down about $465K unrealized. An older ZEC short: 682.2 ZEC at $1,465, up about $140K unrealized.Account value about $854K against ~$8.3M total notional. This is a high-leverage book, not a cautious one. Not a bot: about 250 fills in 14 days, trading in bursts (Oct 16, 18, 24-26, 29). Its last ETH long was opened Oct 24 and closed Oct 25-26 around $2,344. Context, not cause: the long went in about 90 minutes after the first flagged Binance outflow (20:24 UTC). Binance says it is investigating and has not confirmed any impact on user funds. I am not saying the news is why this wallet traded. Read the tape honestly: a long ETH plus short ENA/kPEPE mix looks like a bet that ETH holds up better than higher-beta alts, but only the wallet knows. At 20x, a small move against it matters. Market check (Binance spot, 22:42 UTC): $BTC ~79,136 (-2.7% 24h). $ETH ~2,279 (-3.5%). $BNB ~704 (-7.0%). On TradeAssi I'm following this wallet with whale alerts, to see whether it holds, adds or cuts. Would you buy a hack-headline dip with 20x, or wait for the official report? Not financial advice.
