Strategy’s bitcoin-buying ledger this week is interesting. From October 12–18, it bought just 267 BTC, spending 2.1 million (average price: 2,900); but in the same week, it spent 93.1 million buying back its own STRC preferred shares—the money spent buying bitcoin was just a fraction of what it spent repurchasing its own securities. Its holdings now stand at 848,517 BTC, with a total cost of 4.02 billion and an average price of 5,446. The board also raised the buyback authorization for its digital credit securities from 0 billion to 0 billion, with 160 million still available.

Put simply, Saylor’s main battleground now isn’t accumulating bitcoin; it’s supporting the securities issued around BTC. And don’t forget the sword hanging overhead: under new rules MSCI will finalize on October 15, companies whose balance sheets are dominated by a single asset could be removed from MSCI indexes after November 30. The list will be announced first, on November 11. If Strategy is removed, passive funds will be forced to sell its shares.
